New Roundhill LYTE E.T.F for laser interconnects

Hi guys.

Following the meteroric start-up of Roundhill's DRAM ETF, there is now a ETF that focusses on the laser/photonics/interconnects for AI data centres [ticker: LYTE] - which has been utterly BOOMING recently. Clearly this tech is the future.

Also cheap, at only $25 US a share or so, so easy to cost-$-average or buy or sell - I expect this to double this year and be a very strong gainer over time.

Any thoughts or feedback on this new ETF?

Micron in August 2027

Hi, guys.

I just want to discuss Micron, and predictions for August 2027 after our rough month in July.

As many of you are aware, Micron closed down on Friday after a massive rally on Thursday, crashing the price back down to $820 or so to end July. And end-of-month sell off was expected.

Friday also saw South Korean memory stocks rise about 30%, with the Fab Four going strong Pre-Market until Wall Street opened.

I expect Monday 3rd to open Red in South Korea, with a sell-off after the NASDAQ memory stocks were sold-off Friday, as South Korea are still, IMO, in a high state of fear.

This sell-off on SK will likely create a viscous cycle and add to any sell-off of Memory stocks on Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday we have the last three (3) Earnings Reports: (a) AMD [Tuesday]. (b) Sandisk and Western Digital [Wednesday].

So, I don't expect too much increase in Micron price until Thursday morning, mimicking the week prior. Friday may or may not see another sell off.

My price prediction for Micon is it will reach $1300 by the end of the year, possibly more. But once Micron shakes off the false market sentiment, it will sky-rocket up to $2000 and beyond.

Who else is bullish on Micron, and what is your take?

Mels Unloved Midcaps

I'm curious what peoples thoughts are on the idea of overweighting midcap stocks.

Avoiding large caps appears to provide a premium according to historic research, outside of this dotcom bubble style AI bull run as we are in now. Large companies can weather storms easier and have lower volatility, but come with the downside of providing less upside growth potential.

Avoiding unprofitable small growth stocks also provides a premium. Unprofitable small growth companies have a high skewness, and smallcap growth are generally called the "black hole of investing", so avoiding them entirely provides a premium.

Mid-caps are a happy middle that are neither dragged down by large cap safety nor the black hole of small-cap-growth lottery.

International investing as an American

Generally, do the general-purpose mutual funds from the big brokers like Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab include international companies, or is it mostly US companies?

I'm interested in investing in other countries, but I don't know if it's strictly necessary to choose a fund that says "European" or "International" on the tin as I'd like a mix. Is there an advantage or tax issue with investing in a European broker? Any recommendations there?

Thanks, folks.

PSA: Merrill Edge Dividend Reinvestment Settings

I recently wanted to change an investment from default to "dividend reinvestment". The searches and the AI overviews were awful, so i eventually had to find it by trial and error. This is how you do it:

  1. Have an account
  2. Purchase or transfer securities and wait until it clears
  3. Navigate to "Help & Settings" > "Help & Support"
  4. Part of the "Investment Settings" on this page is the "Dividend Reinvestment Settings"

There you go. Geez. The instructions were all "go to account and go to dividend investment settings", and that is clearly not the path per above.

Socially responsible investing

I'm hoping to find an ethically minded ETF (ESG) that isn't run by a publicly held or just plain evil company. I don't see the point in using Vanguard, BlackRock, DWS, etc when I want to be socially responsible. Is there a non profit investment firm? The salaries could be sky high but the company would have a stated goal of social responsibility.

For whom does it pay to be a moral capitalist? Sustainability of corporate financial performance of ESG investment

Abstract
This paper analyzes the risk-return characteristics of socially responsible investing by employing a time-varying capital gain and Sharpe ratio analysis for various investment horizons. We employ the MSCI ESG (environmental, social and governance) leaders indices in ten markets encompassing Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, UK, USA, China, India, Russia, and South Africa. Our sample ranges from 2007–2020. We document that ESG investments have very desirable return and hedging attributes for investors in these markets, and especially so in the USA and emerging markets.

Exxon the best oil company to invest in?

looking at their fundamental financial data, to me it looks like an absolute banger of a company. they heavily invested in projects that are going to double their profits from 2024 levels by 2030, which is already starting to reflect in the financial statements (annual on the left side of the graphic, the quarterly data on the right side. What do you think about this one? Unfortunately i cannot upload multiple images with charts regarding their competition (Chevron, Occidental), but this one has me excited the most.

Let me know if you would like to see a post with these charts covering other companies that you like!
