THE FUTURE OF THE COMMUNITY [Announcement]

Just an update for you all, regarding both of my moderated communities.

Currently I aim to keep the community alive and uphold my current moderation duties. You will still see uploads from me if I find anything particularly interesting that I would like to share. That being said I will not be keeping a strict schedule of posting, meaning there may be times you might not hear from me. I will still aim to react to and engage with all content posted here from now on. If the community sees an increase in engagement further down the line, then I may resume my regular (heh) posting.

I really appreciate all those who have posted and/or commented on posts. You all have helped shape this place into something pretty neat, a nice little corner of the internet, if you will. I especially appreciate the help of @[email protected] who provided unfaltering support over the past year or so, going as far as to showing me up in the process ;) .

I hope this place will continue to grow steadily over time, and as I've mentioned, I'm not going anywhere, just taking a break from regular posting. I apologise to those who enjoy the regular contributions, the motivation to encourage engagement just isn't there any more. Thanks for a couple great years of top-tier metal and discussions!

And wipe that smirk off your face, I ain't retirin'! This madman ain't going anywhere! I'll see you wherever there's many 0s being played in fast succession! 🤘

NOTICE FOR NEW SUBSCRIBERS

First of all, welcome!

If you haven't already, please read the sidebar for the rules etc. If possible, alongside posting a generic YouTube or Bandcamp link to a song, if you could post links to other services you use (such as Spotify) then it makes it easier for people to listen on their preferred platform. This isn't essential, but I think it makes it easier for everyone to access the music and listen the way they want to.

An alternate post structure myself and @[email protected] use, which I think looks the nicest, uses the image post format (with the album cover as the image) and links to the relevant platforms at the bottom of the text body. See one of my posts for reference. Again, not essential, just helps keep things uniform.

And if you want to be a real saint, you could remove unnecessary parameters from links 😉 (though I don't expect everyone to go to that much trouble).

Enjoy some good fucking music! 🤘

Scimitar - Aconitum

This is a weird one for me to recommend. It has your classical heavy metal, a bit of black metal, complex soundscapes, and a phenomenal main female voice. This experimental release won't be for everyone here, but I see it as a growth of the sub-genre, in a different direction.

I personally like it, or I probably wouldn't share it. Hope this tickles some of you in the right way too.

Sauron - Demo 1984

Old school heavy metal from Sweden. Bet you can't guess when it came out!

This is generally pretty good, almost like a hidden gem. I can see potential, but sadly this is the only release they've ever done. As other reviews have stated, load of galloping guitars and higher female vocals help it to stand apart. The production quality isn't too bad either!

Gonna recommend the whole thing, it's about 17 mins of classic heavy metal goodness - I feel everyone should experience that every now and again 🍻

Tales of Medusa - Triumphant Serenade

Today's pick has been on my "bands to look out for" list for a while now. They are totally anonymous, never releasing their names nor are they on any streaming service. As far as I know they record, produce and print their own stuff and hand it out for free in person, never printing more than a hundred or so per album. I would absolutely love to add this to my usual lists but alas.

I can only bring you this music by way of a user uploaded vid on Youtube, sadly. Their music kicks ass and I wish for them success but if they're in it just for the hell of it, just for fun - then more power to em.

Messa - Hour of the Wolf

Traditional doom metal/rock, in the same vein as our good old Sabbath. From Italy, this is their debut album, released in 2016. Linked is the fourth track, with a great set of pipes from the vocalist - not too much reverb on her, thankfully. And when the guitars ramp up after the quiet opening, some great catchy bits. Cymbals stand out a lot as well, a very crisp sound from them, almost a little too distracting lol.

Fortress - Night City

A great heavy metal anthem single promoting an upcoming album to be released in January of next year! I'm following this band rather closely so I'll probably post another track from said album once it releases.

Killer sound and atmosphere, this slower-paced track has tons of talent from the guitars and voice especially. If it weren't metal, one could call it... a e s t h e t i c.

Black Label Society - Stillborn

Zakk Wylde's group after his time in Ozzy's band, featuring the Prince of Darkness himself (R.I.P.) on vocals. Lots of southern sound in BLS overall, but still very rooted in heavy metal. This album is probably their most successful output, and linked is definitely the most successful track, still played on mainstream radio. Not my favorite, but I haven't shared anything in a while.

Freak Kitchen - Raw

Apologies for the lack of posts here as opposed to mine on our sister community [email protected], my tastes lately have been largely affected by post-metal, sludge, and various forms of death metal, leaving me little room to explore more of the vast heavy metal genre.

Anyways here we have Sweden's experimental heavy metal group releasing their debut in 1994. Think of it like a mix of groovy heavy metal and alt rock, except it has a very unique guitar style. These guys are the ones that released that Freak of the Week music video, animated by former Disney employees, that kinda went viral some years ago.

Sacred - On the Verge of Becoming a Shadow

Another band from Sweden, seems they never lost it after all! This release is the band's debut LP and play a mix between heavy and power metal - reminding me like a less mainstream version of Hammerfall, or maybe closer to modern day Riot (or Riot V, as they call themselves nowadays).

Linked is one that stands out to me, a more story-based slower track that kinda reminds me of a version of Iron Maiden in the middle of their career in a small way, and maybe a smidge of Queensrÿche lol.
