How good are attached microphone extensions for headphones verses inbuilt microphone extensions?

How good are attached microphone extensions for headphones verses inbuilt microphone extensions? I don't mean an external mic, I mean some headphones has a drop down extension which goes right in-front of of your mouth, which is what I had for my previous Jabra headphones, now I have Sony which has a microphone somewhere in the headphones, I tested it briefly and you can hear it, but in terms of like, long-time calls or just some stats what might be the pros and cons of each, or is just non-dropdown microphones just better?

My Xmas present: advice? Pristine Koss 4AAA

I am over the moon about these Koss 4AAA stereophones. They seem to have never been used. Came with the model 16-168 case, and all cords are pristine.

They sound amazing. I’ll include more photos, including of docs/inserts/adverts, in a comment.

The ear pads are intact and holding their oil fine. They’re pretty stiff, though, as they’ve hardened a bit over time.

I’ve heard you can use Lexol leather conditioner to soften the ear pads, but I’m scared to try. I don’t want to harm them.

What do you think?

Grado & Koss Updates (IMG Inside)

I put the final touches on the two recent pairs of headphones I posted.

GRADO SR60X:

  • Installed an aftermarket, sheepskin headband w/ metal clasps

KOSS PORTA PRO:

  • Installed brown headband pads

Note: These (like the ear pads) are from Yaxi, however it seems that the dyed colors between batches can vary fairly noticibly. They did come with ear pads that were the same darkness of brown, but I prefer the light ones and will just have to accept that the band is a bit darker.

How to choose the right headphone

Hi, I’m new in the “headphones” world and I usually bought the first cheap option with good reviews on youtube and never really informed myself. My current headphones (Anker Soundcore Q30) are almost dead and I want to make an informed choise about my next one. However I feel like there are a lot of things I know nothing about.

For example I read a lot of good things about Sennheiser but the first pari of headphones I saw in my price range (ACCENTUM) have 37mm drivers. My Soundcore Q30 have 40mm drivers and I always thought that “the bigger the better” for the driver. From what I heard, however, the ACCENTUM are consider higher quality than Soundcore Q30.

What I’d like to know is: what should I really look for to understand the quality of the headphones?

I’d mainly use them to listen to music (some Metal, Punk but sometimes Rap, Classical or movies and videogames OST) in my house or outside (so good ANC is always appreciated).

Help finding a specific headphone battery

I have a pair of B&W PX (first gen) headphones whose batter has finally bit the dust. These headphones are still great, but they now won't hold a charge.

I've been looking at replacing the battery, and it should be doable based on my research. But the problem I'm facing right now is that I cannot for the life of me find a place to buy this battery that lives in the ear cup. The image attached is from a site detailing how to replace it, but the site just says something like "just buy a new battery" with no links or direction on where to find one.

Looking for any of the numbers on the battery in the image have so far not yielded anything helpful to me since web search now sucks balls because of AI.

So my question is: does anyone know of a good site or utility where I might be able to track down a replacement battery? I'd prefer to not use Amazon since fuck them.

Failing that, does anyone know of a good community here to ask about batteries in general?

Shockz OpenRun Pro driver specs? EQ settings?

I can't find any specs for OpenRun Pro drivers, regarding frequency response. I have them hooked to my PC atm and played around with EQ for a few hours. They sound better to my ears with a boost around 180Hz. And I dropped 23Hz entirely as it seems to just cause distortion. They seem tinny with a flat EQ curve. I bought these for cycling and I'm happy with them, but the EQ is an issue, certainly. Anyone have an EQ preset they use? I'm using PulseEffects.

My headphones have a feature where they mute themselves when not on your head; this function has become somewhat broken, is there a way to disable/bypass it entirely?

AKG K271MKII

The audio cuts out on one side, and when I lightly touch the headband it comes back again. I think it's the self-muting thing, and whatever triggers it has worn out and become a bit unpredictable.

I've never needed or wanted this function, so even if my issue isn't that, I'd still be curious if there's a way to disable it.

Cheers!

My news IEMs 7HZ SONUS Hybrid

7HZ SONUS 1DD+1BA Hybrid

Today I received my new IEMs. I have tested them with various music genres of music, and I have to say it sounds amazing, lots of details, clear and rich sound.

The earphone is thinner than I thought, fits nicely in my ears, and seems comfortable so far. The cable is 2-pin with a 3.5mm audio jack.

It comes with a pouch and replacement tips, but the best part is the filter replacements.

Price: 60 USD

PS: My previous IEM where Ouranos TKZK

Listening to this... thing.

My HD650 cable died (again). Waiting for non OEM cable to arrive. I had Audio Technica ATH-M40x drivers with an open wood cup laying around. Friction fit it right in to the HD650 headband. The headband has a handkerchief instead of the pads (they go flat through the years). The M40x pads fake leather was coming off heavily. So I took it all off and now the pads are just fabric. Cut some round foam to cover the back of the drivers. That cable on top I soldered on to connect the left and right driver (M40x only has one input on the left). It works fine as long as I am careful with it (so the drivers don't fall off the headband). Surprisingly, making the M40x open back doesn't change the sound much at all. It is a downgrade from my HD650 though. It's a bit cursed but I'm still enjoying the music.
