How good are attached microphone extensions for headphones verses inbuilt microphone extensions?

How good are attached microphone extensions for headphones verses inbuilt microphone extensions? I don't mean an external mic, I mean some headphones has a drop down extension which goes right in-front of of your mouth, which is what I had for my previous Jabra headphones, now I have Sony which has a microphone somewhere in the headphones, I tested it briefly and you can hear it, but in terms of like, long-time calls or just some stats what might be the pros and cons of each, or is just non-dropdown microphones just better?

As someone that spends way too much time on conference calls I can say that the in-line mics are not great but they are far better than speakerphone. Unless you had a dedicated, free standing microphone, your best bet is a headphone with a built in boom mic. Personally, I like to use gaming sets because of the built-in noise cancelation and physical mute button.

PS: The word you are looking for is "versus". The word "verses" is the plural of "verse", as in "the first verse of a poem".
