Halo Campaign Evolved PC and PS5 Crossplay BROKEN

My wife and I just bought the new Halo for PS5 (her) and PC (me), paid for PS+ so we could play this together, only for it to constantly fail to connect on the PS every time we try to invite or join a game. We have gone through multiple troubleshooting steps, both games are uptodate (8/2/2026), we both have the xbox apps on our phones and make sure we are friends there and can see and message each other in the xbox app before we start the halo games up, both pc and ps5 game screens show us as 'online' and 'in-game' and ready to invite, but the second I, from the pc try to invite her, or she tries to invite me, she gets a network error screen. "Network: trying to connect" hangs there for a few minutes, then dumps her back in the game menu. The pc and PS5 are hardwired with 300 Mbps connections. Crazy!! Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have any workarounds?

SPV3 devs reveal their new project for ODST: Halo Legacies

Saw this on Reddit, figured I'd share it here too.

The devs behind the Custom Edition overhaul mod Halo SPV3 have been working on a new total conversion mod for ODST, which they've finally decided to officially unveil.
In this case, their goal is not an overhaul of the game's campaign like with their previous work. They're more aiming to create their own game using ODST as an engine.

I recommend people to check out the linked blog post. It goes into a lot of detail on the project.

Special guests announced include Tim Dadabo, the voice of 343 Guilty Spark, and Jeff Steitzer, the iconic Halo multiplayer announcer.

(SEE FOLLOW UP) Halo Campaign Evolved's PS5 port has strict split-screen co-op requirements: both players need PSN memberships and Xbox accounts

Follow up response on X (formerly Twitter):

We incorrectly stated that PlayStation Plus is required for local co-op splitscreen play. Local splitscreen co-op requires a PlayStation account for each player but does not require a PlayStation Plus account.

Original quote from the article:

On PS5 specifically, both split-screen players will need to have an active PlayStation Plus membership and a linked Microsoft account. Steam players will only need to link to a Microsoft account, while Xbox Series X|S players will only need an active Game Pass subscription if they want to play online, as expected.

Campaign Evolved Q&A

Questions and summarized answers:

Q: Do you need to find Skulls before applying them?

Yes. Skulls must be found in-game to use them. Each of the 13 missions has 3 hidden Skulls, plus 3 more unlocked via Campaign Remix.

Q: Will there be additional Collector’s Editions?

No. The Collector’s Edition is sold out with no restock planned. More HCE collectibles from partners are coming later in the year.

Q: Are there Xbox account requirements to play?

Yes, a Microsoft account and Xbox Gamertag are required on all platforms. Split-screen on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus for both players. Online co-op on Xbox requires Game Pass.

Q: Will there be Photo Mode or Theater Mode?

No plans for either. The Blind Skull (hides HUD/weapons) and Acrophobia Skull (lets you fly) can be used together for screenshots.

Q: Can hitmarkers be turned off?

Yes, via in-game settings.

Q: Can you wear the Mark IV armor in the base 10 missions?

No, it’s exclusive to the 3 new bonus missions.

Q: How does 3rd Person mode work?

It’s unlocked by finding the “Perspective” Skull in one of the 13 missions — not available from the start.

Q: Will the Stanchion be usable outside the bonus missions?

No. It’s Sgt Johnson’s personal weapon and only appears in the prequel missions.

Q: Will Spartan customization appear in cutscenes?

No, cutscenes stay faithful to the original game’s look.

Q: Will LASO use all Skulls?

Not all of them, similar to MCC, a specific curated selection will be used. Details coming before launch.

Q: How does Co-Op balance enemy encounters?

Enemy count, rank, and AI intelligence scale with player count and difficulty. Each player can also individually set Difficulty Modifiers (damage resistance, shield recharge, etc.), though some achievements are disabled when these are active.

Q: Can you still backpack reload?

Yes, via the “Stowed Reload” Skull, which mimics the original glitch behavior intentionally.

Q: Will there be post-launch DLC or live service content?

No. The game is focused on the campaign remake and three prequel missions with no plans for continued content additions.

Q: Will there be assassinations?

No assassination animations, but one-hit backsmacks return as normal.

Q: Will there be a public demo before launch?

No demo planned. Pre-ordering the Premium Edition gives up to 5 days early access starting July 23.

Q: Do you need to complete the main missions before the three new ones?

No. The prequel missions are available immediately at launch with no gates. New players are still recommended to start with the originals for the tutorials.

Q: Is it July 28th yet?

No. But we’ll get there together!
