*The original (1978 to 1980, based directly on James Herriot's books) was for three series; the second (1988 to 1990, filmed with original scripts but generally regarded as a continuation of the 1978 series) for four.
This show is a nice break from all the action & intense shows that seem to be more common now. Would really recommend checking it out!

Altes Geld - The patriarch of a rich & powerful Austrian family discovers that he's in need of a new liver, creating havoc amongst his dysfunctional family.
It is an artsy european show. The patriarch is played by Udo Kier, a famous Austrian actor. I watched the show on Netflix.
Barbarians - A Roman officer's conflicted allegiances lead to an epic historical clash of events during the Roman Empire's occupation of Germania.
This is a German historical drama about the Roman Empire's occupation of Germany (at the time Germania Magna, a region between the Elbe and the Rhine) during 9 AD. The tribes face heavy taxes and demands for tribute and therefore aim to create a unified Germanic resistance. The show is in German/Latin on Netflix with english subtitles and other languages.
This is not an accurate rendition of the Roman-Germanic wars.
