This got me curious about how we compare to other PL communities here. So I looked them up:

  • Gunners - 906
  • Reddevils - 400
  • Liverpoolfc - 221
  • Coys - 108
  • Chelseafc - 101
  • Mancity - 3 (lol)

TL;DR: We are gargantuan!

Steady growth but lots of lurkers it seems.

Welcome everyone! Don't be shy lol.

Lurkers are inevitable, though.
I subscribed just so I can read the headlines on my frontpage.

Hello friend. Not so much shy as nothing to say. Btw, did we sign Rice yet? 🤣

Obviously we're going for some kind of Risotto Rice, taking a bit longer to cook.

Migrated over here from Reddit a few weeks ago - traditionally a lurker so trying to engage more to help this community grow (and to feed my own need to read endless Gunners discussions and shitposts).

This is me too, massively shifted into lurking over the past few years of Reddit. Trying to contribute more over here to get the ball rolling properly.

I need somewhere to F5 and is it fuck going to be Reddit now

Welcome to both of you. I've also been more of a lurker on reddit, but am also finding it nice to engage more here. Helps that it's a smaller community right now, where everyone seems reasonable.

Just seen an article explaining how we're seriously in for Mbappe. On 800k/wk. I want what they're smoking

We really don't need him to disturb the dynamic. won't disagree he is a hell of a player, but I'm pretty sure Arteta is not going to destroy the environment he worked so hard to established. Plus fucking a, wanker's too expensive lol

I'm back bitches!

Jerboa basically died on me. So I'm on a different app now. Still a little buggy but experience is significantly better.

Also really happy to see so happy Lemmy android apps pop up this week.

What app are you using? I have found that Connect for Lemmy has been the most reddit-like experience and has great customisation options available

Also, welcome back!

I'm using wefwef.app

It's really well done but can't do notifications yet since its a Web wrapper. I'm holding off committing to an app until Boost for Lemmy is ready (which was my preferred Reddit client).

Is my app on the struggle bus today or is Lemmy world still having some issues with the incoming traffic for other people?

3

I've been having a lot of intermittent issues. I have heard that making an account on a smaller instance and then using it to view lemmy.world content pretty much resolves the issues but haven't tested it myself yet.

It's definitely on lemmy.world my other account on programming.dev working like normal. I think lemmy.world is at like 90k users. That was some quick growth, it was going to be hard for the adminis to scale that quick.

1

Yeah it was at 50k on July 1 and two days later it’s encroaching on 90k. That’s gonna cause some issues.

So we already have a left-sided/right-sided central midfielder (Havertz) to replace Xhaka; a defensive midfielder (Rice) incoming to replace Partey; and a RCB/RB (Timber) incoming to help there (and allow Tomi to cover more on LB).

What other areas do people here think we need?

I wouldn't mind seeing stronger competition for Jesus up front, and maybe another young defence midfield prospect. But otherwise we are looking in good shape.

Would personally prefer a better backup RW than an out-of-position Nelson, but he deserves a chance and will be cheaper than anyone we could get who would be willing to be behind Saka.

I think the aim with Nelson is to turn him into a general purpose rotational forward, who can play anywhere up the top. That way he should get enough game time and it wouldn't preclude us getting more dedicated backup for Saka and/or Jesus.

2

I feel like Nelson as a CF would be an incredible waste, but I could see him at midfield eventually.

2

Obvious one is a player that can both cover Saka and Jesus, while offering something different in those positions from what we currently have.

2

I think he's basically gone. And it's good timing. He's reaching the point where he will start declining in the fast-paced, physical PL. And he's had a fantastic redemption arc, so he's going out on a high. Not to mention, Arteta's tactics will probably be evolving, and Xhaka isn't the most adaptable player. It's a good time for both him and the club to part ways. Best of luck to him in Germany.

Interestingly, I read something today saying that Timber might be used in midfield (presumably as a DM) , and not exclusively in defence. I don't know a ton about the lad. But if he's a typical Arteta long-term signing he's very good with his feet and positionally flexible (e.g. Saliba, White, Zinchenko). So I suppose it's not that ridiculous in theory.
