I could see Dice or EA doing this out of spite. "How DARE a couple of nerds make a better game than 2042?? Those players belong to us!"
Dice really needs to get away from EA. Every game nowadays has its gameplay built around the monetization model and EA is among the greediest. It's nice to have a game that is a labor of love and not something built by a marketing team.
Salty folk who got mass banned is my guess.
