There are a lot of communities across the fediverse based off of r/196, where the only rule is that you have to post something before leaving. I ended up blocking most of those communities because of the spam.

Surprised I'm not banned from there, Ive commented on posts from those communitues multiple times before and never once posted

fedia.io

I accidentally subscribed to it, and since I get a 500 error every time I try to visit it (problem with fedia.io I think) I cannot unsubscribe.

It's kind of annoying.

The rule in 196 is that once you've visited, you must post before leaving. Thus, the title suffix "rule".

I'd like to see them make me. Fuck them and their "rule"

(Psst... a lot of people broke the rule.)

It was also supposed to only apply if you explicitly went to the subreddit. If you just saw a post in your feed you didn't have to make a post yourself.

But the rule makes the community very very active in a place where there's otherwise not much activity.

I once visited that sub (to block it) and didn't post when I left. Faced no consequences believe it or not.

first community i’ve blocked here since making my account. god, that spam, ugh…

It's got one good meme for every 10 shit ones, so every time I'm about to block it I reconsider

/r/196 was a popular sub on Reddit, about 500k subscribers. A lot of them were dedicated users who were very active and had recognizable usernames.

196 was one of the first major subs to shut down and point everyone to the fediverse. It helps that 196 was very LGBTQ-friendly and Blahaj.zone is also very explicitly LGBTQ-friendly, so it was a good match.

196 creates a lot of content because their "rule" was anytime you visited the sub you had to leave an image, whether it was a repost or not. This also works very well for a nascent fediverse where not a lot of OC is being made yet.

Thus 196 was pretty much in the perfect position to become one of the biggest places on the fediverse.

I think they're still down? Not sure, can't check any more. They were my favorite subreddit, so I've been submitting a few posts to the community here also.

Across the fediverse if you stick an @ in front of the 196 it'll work. Lemmy has a thing where they do an ! instead, but that's specifically their thing.

Works with usernames too.

Thanks! This was the info that I needed to block them myself. First block on Lemmy.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I'll wait to see if it calms down after the wave of users from Reddit.

The 196 and 195 communities have only 1 rule. If you visit the community, you must post.

There’s nothing to stop anyone from not doing it.

Yes there is. That would be against the rules. Duh.

(and usually, use the word "rule" in the title)

196, I like that community and seen a lot of fun stuff there, but I can see how it could be too spammy for some.

3

Content has been slowly increasing but my first few days were 99% 196 and German posts until I blocked those communities haha

kbin.social

The front page is still very broken here on Lemmy and kbin. If a community is very active, it will show you nearly every post from that community. Depending on what time of day I log on, all the posts will be in German.

Das liegt bestimmt nur an deinen Spracheinstellungen. Vllt musst du da Mal angelsächsisch einstellen oder so.

3

Das ist doch mal eine gute Gelegenheit, eine wunderschöne neue Sprache zu lernen!
