Hunting Pack Essentials
New to Lemmy so wanted to start creating some engaging content for new hunters who may land here.
What's the must haves in your pack?
Mine is a life jacket strobe light. Occasionally I get weird glances when people see it at camps, etc. but it has more than once been used to guide people to our location after recovering game at sunset. I originally carried it in the event I was lost while hiking since I solo often in Arizona's Southern Mountain ranges for Deer .
SHIT KIT.
Toilet paper, biodegradable wet wipes, backpacking trowel.
My hunting breakfast is a protein shake with coffee in it and a banana. It's inevitable that nature will call.
I once had the bubble guts so bad in the field I used every once of toiletries and a camo head wrap. It was so bad that later on a different group of hunters stumbled upon it and when I ran into them the next day they were like "Something was definitely sick over there on the other side of that ridge."
I gut and skin mine in the field before taking it for processing. I used to carry a full knife kit but now I primarily use a havalon with replacement blades and a small axe for splitting bone if needed.
