Memmy 0.0.1.78 Changelog - Save content, updated communities list, more fixes - iOS 14 support
Edit: Expired .78 because of a super annoying keyboard autofocus on the traverse page. Releasing .79 in about 5 minutes.
Hey all! Here are this version's changes:
- Fix infinite spinning on profile page
- Images that also have a post body now show both
- Fixed duplicate NSFW setting
- Keyboard for search now includes "@" for easy access
- Sign in/sign up screens now include "." for easy access as well
- Onboarding screen should render correctly on all devices
- You can save posts now. They will be synced with your Lemmy account. You can view them on your profile page
- All of your subscriptions will now show up and you can search through them. Also a more attractive and easy way to access them
- Default Active search was added to settings
- Settings was moved to profile. We will revisit this if it's a user issue (i.e. people can't find it, you guys don't like it, etc.)
- Issue with communities having an "infinite render" are fixed

The keyboard opening on the traverse page is quite annoying, especially since there’s already a search page that does that. Other than that it’s great.
This was a mistake. New build is already building...
Can you shed some light on what the traverse button should do?
When I click it, it’s just blank with a search box at the top.
Subscribe to some communities and they will show up there. It’s going to have a bit more stuff like trending and whatnot, not a fully complete feature yet.
Ah. If any other users have this issue, close and reopen the app and they will be there.

Yea, you can pull to refresh there too. I should have made it more clear with a placeholder, just didn’t do it because I have some other plans for it. Sorry bout that.

I always liked in Apollo if you tapped search it would bring you to the search page, but double tapping brought you there and automatically opened the keyboard. So if your goal was to actually input text you could do it quickly but not annoy anyone looking to browse. Could maybe do something similar.
Check the new version. Sorry about that, didn't even notice. Simulator doesn't display the keyboard.
Wow that was quick, cheers. I’ve noticed that the keyboard auto focuses on the search page as well except for the first time you click on the search page after opening the app.
Not sure what the intended behaviour is but I assume it’s not that. It would be good if it auto focused when the page is blank but not when you’ve already searched something.
Don’t rush changing that though since it’s a lot less annoying than the traverse bug.

I found the keyboard opens when you tap the search bar but it will go away if you tap anywhere else.

The traverse tab doesn’t update subscriptions when you select a second account.

I still get the weird double refresh profile thing happening.
I’ve also had the subscription list add double entries a few times but not sure what is triggering it. Once it mixed subscriptions from both accounts.
I think all of those are fixed now. Ironed out quite a few bugs in the last update.

Looking pretty good. It’s feeing like y’all are about ready to submit for approval.
Looks like y’all disabled screen rotation to hide that nasty rotation bug for now. IMHO, that was a smart move, and one I have 100% done with my apps to hit a release date 😅
Noticed a few things:
There were both present in build 75 but disappeared in 78
Fixed the later issue for now just by reverting. I'll have to do something a bit different, couldn't use the standard Twitter keyboard type.
As for the former, I am experimenting with using the Traverse page for this instead. I'll be adding some other features there such as trending.
If people hate it, I'll switch it back. If it's mixed, I'll do both. Just want to see what user feedback is here and go from there. It's totally not something set in stone.
I liked the old way, only I just wanted to be able to swipe from feed to open the subscriptions, but maybe people prefere this way better. Thank you for your awesome work btw
Can we have auto-read for posts once we’ve scrolled past them on our phone screen?

I am mostly excited about Saved now working. My only question is: Is there a way to recover locally saved items before this update? Are they saved to a file/database on my phone?
Just wanted to say that this app has totally blown me away! Thank you to all those that are working on it, this is by far the best lemmy app that I’ve used thus far.

I can‘t set the default sorting type to new.
The default setting is for app launch. You can select the sort of the current session from the icon at the top.
It might be worth updating this automatically though once a user changes the setting, I’ll add this to the list.

hey, would it be possible to provide a .ipa build of memmy directly on the github? I'm on iOS 15 and TestFlight doesn't seem to work on my system version, and I don't have a mac not the experience to build it myself.
I think Memmy might be my direct replacement for Apollo! Thing i’ve noticed missing is that posts with links do not display body of posts even though there is some text when i browse same posts through the website. It feels like i’m missing out on some content. Besides that app works perfectly and love every new update with new features! Also this is my first lemmy comment!
What version is it? There were some problems recently but they have been cleaned up. Are you on 0.3?
Never mind, obviously you are on 0.3 if you have the image viewer (and yes it’s a work in progress which is why it’s rough around the edges).
Do you have a full crash or is it showing you the little sad face?

I updated the comment too, so just wondering what time of crash it is. If it's a full crash that's pretty odd but if you're getting a sad face, could you send some debug logs?
I noticed something earlier today that I figured was actually just a me issue myself during development, but I suppose it could possibly be part of the problem. Weird because I have not heard anything from anyone else having issues, but I also assume that it could be because of the older device and the performance being a bit more lacking on that one (something could be taking longer to render somewhere).
I've been working today on finding and fixing various performance issues, so I'll keep a lookout for that same issue I noticed earlier and it's possible the performance improvements will help with that crash. If it's freezing, it's making me think something is trying to render and might be getting "clogged up".
A hard crash like that too could be some sort of memory warning (although from my own testing the app rarely uses over 100 MB of memory and maxes at about 150 which shouldn't be causing any memory issues even on some older devices). But if it's truly a rendering issue, it might be trying to render something over and over and causing a memory leak. Thanks for pointing it out.
Everything is working perfectly! One request I’d like to see, if it’s even possible, was sharing photos to iMessage or other apps directly from the app as an image and not a link. From Apollo all you had to do was hold on the image and it would bring up the option to share through various apps as a regular image. If you do it with this app it wants to send the image as a link. I have to save the image to my camera roll and then send it that way to avoid sending as a link. Idk if my explanation made sense. If not I’ll try and explain a little bit better.

Can i ask a stupid question?
I've compiled & installed iOS applications before, but this must be the first with yarn. I can get it running on my physical device, but it looks like it needs the dev server running. I even went in & set it to be a Release instead of Debug, but no luck
Any chance someone can point me in the right direction?

You can open the project in Xcode to do prod builds. Open up Xcode then open up the “ios” directory from the cloned project.
