Sigh, Yuki. That prob would've been best finish for AT. Both Top 10. And now he's down in 16.

lemmy.world

That would've been driver of the day for me too. From 19th to 8th in the first half of the race. He needs to make fewer mistakes like these. Then again, I guess he hasn't had much experience with a car that can overtake others.

6

Admittedly, he did get lucky with the red flag. Free pit stop from old hards to new.

Ferrari comms: Stay out. We don't see anything big.

end plate breaks off immediately

22

Bruh, the Redbull mechanics were looking at perez as if they knew the dude is out lmfao

21

That was my feeling too. "Get out, you're blocking our view of the screen".

17
lemmy.world

Did we just witness the return of question, question?

21

Seems like it. If they got a chance to win, they want to blame the drivers for potential strategy mistakes.

4

Perez forgot he's driving a real race and not a F1 23 multiplayer race.

SuperIcereply
lemmy.world

He needs to make fewer mistakes. He had such an incredible recovery until then, probably would've been right behind Ricciardo. I guess he doesn't really have enough experience overtaking other cars given how crap his car has been until this race.

4

He should have been more patient I suppose. But thats easy for me to say, im crap at sim racing

1
lemmy.world

I'm really surprised at how well the mediums are holding on.

14
Chupreply
feddit.de

Lap 69 and HAM is increasing the gap to the hard LEC behind him.

5

Ferrari was managing heat as I understand. A lot of lift and coast for them. But the mediums were great still, ham got FL at the end 😲

Checo is losing me. I don’t know if I can keep doing this. Get your shit together man

13
💡dimreply

I think today was the day he blew it with Red Bull.

And Danny Ric's performance just makes it even worse for him. At this point I would be amazed if Checo is in a Red Bull (F1 car) next year

RB dont need someone to win races, they just need someone who can qualify well, not make stupid mistakes and finish 2nd-3rd behind Max

18
Junereply
lemm.ee

Yep. I think that’s right on point. And if Danny podiums today, I think he’s in the second RB seat next year.

3

Even if he doesn't get on the podium he'll still be finishing 71 laps ahead of Perez. That counts, too.

7
sh.itjust.works

Prediction, Danny Ric on podium after ferrari puts leclerc on used softs

11

Nah, he'll think he's back in 2018 and crash into Verstappen. Or at least that seems more likely than Ric finishing in the top 3. A top 10 finish should be doable though.

2

Charles post-race interview: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, that wasn't my fault with Checo! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Don't hurt me!!"

10
lemmy.world

Ferrari: Mediums will be slower than Hards in 5 laps

Narrator: But that wasn't true..

9

They were all of them deceived...
For another tyre was made.

11
lemmy.world

Max pit under SC? he has to, 21 second lead, cannot waste that

edit: yup

This worked out absolutely perfect for Max, especially as he was the only one with two new sets of hards

9

If this gives us a second standing start he might be less than thrilled. But, he seems to have the starts well in hand, too.

2
DV8reply
lemmy.world

With the red flag, that's no longer true. Free repairs for Lec and less optimal position on that long straight with a danger of crashes.

Though I'm worried for Ricciardo losing position with the restart.

1

God, I want Danny to hold on to that 4th, but there is no way in hell that Alpha Tauri can beat a Mercedes... right? I NEED SOME FUCKING COPIUM

9

Its really hard to even get excited about the prospect of a Ferrari front row, because you just know they will somehow contrive to get in each others way, let Max through on lap one, and then make a pigs ear of their strategy and finish 5th and 6th

Well that was as predictable as the sun rising and setting.

I completely failed to predict Checo's stupidity though

8

I think that is his main problem now. He hasn't really had a car that can keep up and overtake with cars until now and he clearly lacks experience in overtaking.

4
lemmy.world

I feel like Max pitted early just so he could pass some people

8
lemmy.world

Merc have bet on Ferrari having higher than average deg, if Ferrari don't start reeling them in soon they be right

2

If he could have proven he could keep a cool head he might have strengthened his case but this is just dumb. He just needed to cede second, overtaken in the next laps and cruised to second for a crowd that would have adored him.

So damn unnecessary and dumb. Apart from his contract he still needs to keep second place.

7

Osama bin Russell i swear to god if you take out riccardo im going to say something very not nice

7

Did Russell fuck his tyres? He has been slow compared to what Hamilton has managed.

1

Sainz puncturing after driving over Charles' end plate under VSC would have been the crowning glory.

thankfully we have avoided that fiasco :D

6

For once I agree with all 3 drivers who are in the lead for driver of the day. That last move by Norris was chef's kiss.

6

Oof. DNF at home race.

Could also have not gone any worse for Ferrari, as expected.

5
DV8
lemmy.world

With the Mercedes cars on the medium it seems Ricciardo could end up fourth, with Yuki maybe fifth or sixth considering Piastri is also on mediums.

5
lemmy.world

3 wide is always difficult and not really a specific fault here, but reflects overall poorly on Perez yet again.

4

It reflects insecurity and overeagerness. His car is faster in the race and even if he couldn't overtake a podium is nice result for him. Both PR wise and in the standings.

It would prove his team boss isn't delusional when he argues that Checo's seat is safe.

2

Lance has seemingly been trying to escape his racing career for some time now.

5

Is plan A for Charles another: Adventure, choose your own, question, situation?

4
lemmy.ml

All the cars running mediums mean that we have more pitstops in this race. This may get interesting.

4

Verstappen was complaining about his mediums even before lap 20. So those guys with used medium tyres now might be forced to stop soon after the restart, losing lots of positions due to tight traffic.

6
Nighedreply
sffa.community

Sky said suspension failure, probably caused by his off on the pit straight earlier

3
Nighedreply
sffa.community

You could see it on the replay, the rear left broke off as he turned right - was pointing backwards

3

226 point lead on his teammate, and 2nd place. Max had been unbelievable this season.

3
LCP
lemmy.world

What are we expecting for race restart? Max keeping P1?

3
Eideenreply
lemmy.world

It a standing start so can be a replay of lap1.

2

I'm personally rooting for Max to keep P1 but I think Hamilton can slipstream to p1 like Verstappen himself did.

I suspect Russell will go bowling and Tsunoda will overtake Ricciardo.

Edit: shows what I know.

1

Perez is trying everything he can to hold on to his seat, I guess. That move was never going to happen, not in a million years

3

So two sprint races essentially. Should be a good restart to shake up the order.

3
💡dimreply
lemmy.world

went Danny Ric

He has not done anything except pretty much maintain position, but, that's exactly what AT would have hoped for

And thats all RB would want from him next year

4

yeah, Norris did some great overtakes and had awesome pace, but I had to give it to Ricciardo for bringing in the points

2

Danny Ric needs to find that 3/10th on Sainz from somewhere to get himself some DRS

2
DV8
lemmy.world

Plan A for Ferrari feels like a loooooong time ago.

2
espentanreply
lemmy.world

Yeah, considering the filing cabinet full of plans they usually have, they should get cracking.

2

They should lean into the reputation and pick random letters. I want to see a plan Z

3

It's 15 more laps, even if they do manage to get ricciardo, how are they planning to hold it?

EDIT: I stand corrected

2

Hulk more than 10 seconds down on Russell. The Hass really isn't great on race pace.

2
lemmy.world

Bad decision for Norris and Albon. Was an obvious red flag situation imo.

2
Nighedreply
sffa.community

Norris only lost 2 places - possibly better to definitely get new tires cheaply - imagine what we would have been saying if they just left it as a safety car

5

Just with the history of races where the Tecpro was dislodged, it was highly likely that it was going to get red flagged.

3

They played the Mariachi version of the F1 theme wooooooohooooo

2

I was trying to quit the bias of the Sky Sports casters and tried to watch it with F1 TV commentary, but the american/canadian accent really ruins the experience, uff

1
lemmy.world

Does anyone watching Sky know what happened to Martin Brundle? Seems like an unexpected change based on how the presenters are handling it

1

NVM he's in the commentary box but in the grid walk they referenced Martin being missing

1

Yep! I was wondering if Crofty would need to do the whole thing solo for a moment there!

2
sffa.community

Does anyone know if Aston are running the new or the old package?

1
DV8reply
lemmy.world

Alonso should be running the new one. At least that was mentioned in the grid walk on F1TV.

3

Old, I think? They reverted Alonso's car in Austin and Stroll's car here.

2

Alonso is on the new package from Austin, Stroll is back on Qatar spec which is why he started from the pit lane.

Inverse of last week where Stroll was on the new package and Alonso was on Qatar spec.

2
DV8
lemmy.world

No mariachi theme is the first dissapointment of today. :-(

1
wesreply

The music is on now during the starting grid rundown

6

Yeah, it's good to hear. Shame they didn't start the broadcast with it still though.

1
lemmy.ml

I wonder if the one stop will work out for Ferrari...

1

Max is on track to get the second stop for "free", compared to the Ferraris.

4
💡dimreply
lemmy.world

nah, they will pit Charles with 2 to go to go for the fastest lap, and one of the tyres will get stuck...

2
DV8reply
lemmy.world

Splitting the strategy would be a good bet I think, looking at how the people who pitted are doing.
