Eternity v0.1.2 released

Hello everyone!

It's been some time since our last update. As the version number indicates, this is primarily a bugfix update; hence, it doesn’t bring the "big new feature" I had hoped to introduce. The most important change here is that this version of Eternity will be compatible with the upcoming Lemmy version 0.19.

It's worth noting that upon upgrading to this version, you may need to log out and then log back into your account, based on my experience.

For the next release, I want to address more of the common issues found in our bug tracker. So, there may be another minor update shortly, but I can't make any promises at the moment. I've also made some progress with multi-community support and I plan to introduce modding tools as well.

In the meantime, thank you so much for your continued support.

Thank you for replacing my crippling R*ddit addiction with a Lemmy addiction.

Thank you for the value and your service to the community. Having an Infinity clone made it so much easier to switch to Lemmy!

Just switched from Liftoff after having used Infinity for years. Thank you for wasting years of collective time my dude 👌

Edit: Just gave it 5 stars on Google Play

I don't think he is the original dev of infinity. He has taken over the project and ported it to function with lemmy. So he is not to blame for your years of wasted time.

Look into Obtainium. Lets you install apps straight from the code repository's release page. I've moved to managing all my open source apps with it.

This isn't a good solution for two reasons:

  • App discovery isn't a good without an app store
  • Getting your apps directly from the devs allows for them to slip in things like non-free software and libs

I was thrown off by the new icon, but I like it! Thanks for making the best Lemmy app.

Finally picked sorting option stays after closing the app!

I updated from Fdroid, and after doing so, then logging off and back in, the app icon did not change to the new one. Is this the expected behavior?

Depends on your launcher. Force close it, or restart your phone.

I'm using F-droid launcher. Eternity Nightly version in F-droid is 0.1.2. I did force close both apps (F-droid, Eternity), cleared cache both apps, rebooted my phone. Uninstalled Eternity, reinstalled. None of this updated the icon.

By launcher, I mean your home app. Go to your device Settings > Apps > Default apps > Home app. Something like Nova, Lawnchair, KISS, etc. or whatever the default launcher for your phone is.

oh, my bad. My launcher is Samsung One UI. That said I have already tried stopping the app clearing cache and data, closing and reopening the app. No change.

In the play store I still have the old version. (I don't get an "Update" button just Open or Uninstall).

Not hurried to update. But wonder if it's not updating because I originally installed the apk manually or just because I need to wait a bit more.

Depends on how you installed it originally.

If you installed via play store then try clicking on your icon, on the top right, then 'manage apps' and go to the update area, refresh and see if the update appears.

If you installed via fdroid (izzy's repo), then you will have to wait until it's available there.

If you installed it directly from codeberg, then I believe you will have to download and install the latest release. People tend to use the Obtainium app for this.

Hopefully this clears things up for you. And if I'm mistaken on something, my apologies.

I can't remember if I installed via APK or Fdroid. But thanks I'll then uninstall and reinstall

Anyone else have to re-add eternity to obtainium to get it to find the release?
