This reminds me of the people applying for senior roles because they've learned Power BI basics in the last few months, can make BI reports "dashboards", and think they're data analytics gurus "data whisperers" now.

It's like learning PowerPoint and thinking you're Scorsese.

On one hand, I know personally how frustrating it is you know the data is in there somewhere, why can't anyone in the company extract it. On the other hand, can't we just keep calling them SMEs instead. No one doing real work has time to get acquainted with these titles.

I feel called out and Iโ€™m loving it lmao. Itโ€™s wild how many people hire ya based on knowing how to click the buttons in PowerBi

Haha. My advice is learn analytics methodologies to ensure your value. Open Excel and click the Get Data button. You'll see where Power BI came from and suddenly realise Excel users that query already knew how to use Power BI on Day 1. Catch up by learning your M and DAX well, get good analytics methodologies and concepts learned, and you're safe ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

This is not the weirdest thing I've seen someone in marketing do at a big data company

I saw an offering looking for a "Java champion" once. Which is either just programming or a mythological hero from Indonesia.

All their "java heros" died to "java rockstars," so now they need a "java champion" to challenge them to a fight to the death.

WTF is a โ€œdata whispererโ€?

A report writer. They pull information out of a database, format it to look pretty, and then give it to other people that actually use that information. But "report writer" sounds boring, while "data whisperer" sounds mysterious and cool.

Man the farm report gets me hot.

"Soybeans 12.75 ... Pork Bellies 140.14 ..."

"Western Olympic Peninsula, westerly 5' swell, wind west 12 knots ... Puget Sound calm, wind west 8 knots..."

This is like my job, but the only things I'm whispering are profanities

So I feel like this is having your group tattooed on your knuckles for middle management in the upcoming Corporate Wars

In the Netherlands, "data whisperer" is something you can study with "stap budget".

You reached the end
