RBR sending Perez out again is some passive-aggressiveness at this point.

Maybe this will get lawson a seat somewhere, with someone getting promoted from Alpha Tauri? I really hope so, lawson really deserves a seat.

lemmy.world

Who else would be up for that? I can't think of anyone else who'd get remotely close.

3

Logan? I think checo takes the crown today for sure

Wew what's Perez up to today. Gonna pick up penalties like Infinity Stones.

16
feddit.de

Dude feels the pressure so much that he's driving himself out of a RB seat.

6

What is even goin on with Perez today. Clumsy start resulting in early pit stop to drop to back of grid. Picking more penalties on the way. Retired. And now comes back and retires again after one lap.

Yea, what an absolutely shocking clusterfuck.

Checo is quick, and when he’s on he’s on, but these lows are not the right look.

3

Reminds me of Bottas' last phase at Merc, where he also went from leading the championship at the start of the year to appearing absolutely unfit for F1 at the end.

2
lemmy.world

I heard this would be a 2-stopper; Logan getting them out of the way early so he can spend the remaining laps hunting down Max. /s

13

This was the problem with bringing F1 to the US. Americans drive like it's fucking NASCAR. Imagine if that seat had Lawson in it instead.

2

What the hell? How can be unretiring a car to serve a penalty, then retire it again be in the rules?

11

Because there is no definition of "retiring" in the rulebook. Which should have been on their radar years ago, you see it regularly how cars pull into the pits and the official tracking keeps showing them as "in the race" and not "retired".

7

They did a pitstop and served the 5 seconds and then retired the car. This is why he was out there for 2 laps

3

I just did a cursory search on the FIA's 2023 Sporting Regulations, and I couldn't find anything about the procedures through which drivers serve penalties, so...

2
lemm.ee

It’s so bizarre not having both RBs on the podium at the race that they win WCC

Yeap, but Perez helped secure the WCC by taking out Logan /s

7

Agreed with Jolyon. That was brutal. Not sure I agree with the FIA.

The just showed a clip of the actual infringement - into the pits, overtaking Alonso.

4

Yeah I thought it was elsewhere on the track, but I caught that. Yeah...Pérez needs to just retire today and get ready for Qatar.

2
feddit.de

I kinda doubt it'll work out the way they want, the other teams definitely will have words. And if it works out that will be a change in regulations.

5

If it requires a change in regs, won't matter because the strategy will have worked when used.

8

Perez coming back in to serve his penalties? Or he could pick up some more on the way :P

4

He knows he'll be so dominant in the final few races that he couldn't be bothered to finish this one. /s

Sargeant penalised for new car after Q1 crash https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.official-grid-who-starts-where-in-japan-as-sargeant-is-penalised-for-new-car.X4qn5ydpjjHBscTrUrMwn.html

the damage to his Williams was such that the team have had to build up what the stewards consider a new car for him. [...] it means the American rookie not only has to start from the pit lane, but also receives a 10-second time penalty.

But Will Buxton on pre-race stream said that Williams got penalized for starting work on his car too early?

EDIT: He did tweet this out: https://x.com/wbuxtonofficial/status/1705774169374257291 (Nitter link) so maybe I misheard or something.

6

Either way, hopefully Sargeant's done in F1 after this race. He's basically the reincarnation of Nicolas Latifi.

Petition to put all of the races in Europe

And then call it the World Championship anyway!

6

I mean, unironically it'd still be more of a world championship than anything in the US. Plus, Formula 1 has historically been an all-European sport. Nothing wrong with returning to that.

Perez +6 Laps? I don't think that's right... That was way more than 6 laps.

Smoooooooooth operator.

Will he be able to overtake Hamilton in time?

2
lemmy.world

With the rear end struggles drivers were having around the last turn paired with high tire deg, I expect at least one safety car. Could be a fun watch.

Yeah, and a two stopper, especially with the higher-than-normal temperature. Max will likely walk away with it but the rest of the podium is up for grabs. Hoping Oscar can stand on it!

5

With Max only having a single set of hards available, I wonder if he starts the race on hards, then goes to mediums to finish the race.

Plenty of debris on track. Seems reasonable to me.
