Their story may be embellished but the problem was legitimate at one point.

I found a few of these old screensavers and another one which lets you have a random selection between like 10 of them. It all still works on Windows 11

Starfield, 3d pipes and flying toasters are amongst the selection, I couldn't seem to get Jonny castaway working unfortunately

Hey, my Matrix code screensaver ca. 2002 was the shit. Granted, I probably got three different viruses downloading it for three hours over our landline.

Puhleeze.

Homer Simpsons eating my screen was the peak of screen savers.

Though, I guess it wasn't much of a 'saver' if it was being eaten...

I submit for consideration the Monty Python screensavers which were actually playable games.

2

Rumor is if you change the elbows to have those knobs on the elbow you can see a toilet randomly show up after 3 hours!

It is sad this screensaver has not carried over to the latest versions of Windows. Maybe a 4k remaster is needed.

I miss screensavers.

God I wish there was a modern day version of that one of the shipwrecked guy on the island, that was all animated and full of story elements.

Best money I've ever spent on steam is for wallpaper engine. Check it out.

I just looked at wallpaper engine and..uh.. yeah, thats an awful lot of semi-naked cartoon women.

Soooo.. I think I'll pass.

  1. That's only when you specifically turn adult wallpapers on in the search settings

  2. you choose the wallpaper. It doesn't randomly cycle between all wallpapers in the workshop or something. The only reason an adult wallpaper will ever be displayed is if you specifically select it

4

That and you can also straight up remove them from the search with a setting.

1

Screensavers still exist in Windows, you know. I use one for my OLED.

4

I spent many hours while home sick just lying down and watching Johnny Castaway. I've had his hum stuck in my head... forever.

Damn, I'm sure we had a computer running Windows 3.1 at some point when I was a kid, but I guess we didn't have any fun stuff. Lol

I remember playing DOS games, and then there's a gap, and the first windows I remember was probably win95

I remember 3 things about windows 3.1

The simplicity of the layout.

Spending hours ooing and awwing over Encarta Encyclopedia on CD

and playing a starwars game that I cant for the life of me remember anything about other than flying through a canyon as the first level, and being too dumb and uncoordinated to actually complete the level and not crash.

Computing was so much more interesting and entertaining back then.. Now its so boring, everything drowning in same-ness.

4

tell me about it.. Like, in the 80s and 90s when stores had wild and radical design asthetics and were awesome places to wander around... and now they are all the same boring off white blandness.

As an out-of-the-loop 90s-enthusiast, this is exactly what I think of when all these kids on my lawn keep going on about Starfield.

11

Microsoft is also bundling Starfield the game just as they did the screensaver. Included in Game Pass and you can play the PC version on GeForce Now.

I just found that funny.

Normalize the death of screen savers. How much c02 is generated displaying nonsense instead of simply putting the monitor and/or computer to sleep after X minutes

-1

Hasn't this already happened? I don't see screensaver very often anymore.

5

Dude, I haven't used a screen saver since 98SE, although I live in a country where we do utilize things like nuclear, wind, solar and hydroelectric
