But AI still will. That genie is never going back in the bottle unless we hit a Butlerian Jihad type of deal and it becomes globally illegal.

This is true, but it kinda seems like the mega hype is finally diving into the trough of disillusionment.

AI will remain a tool, not the insane mess that it is today.

I think it's gonna be a lot messier than that, actually.

Right now we're seeing people take on a strong AI stance as a social and cultural value, and things are dividing along those lines. You see it reflected in just about any website that receives content. You either filter out the slop, or you risk becoming a slop website that gets overwhelmed with it (thus the name, slop). Once you're known as a slop website, you lose value to the anti-AI people.

There's force behind the AI movement, but it doesn't have the cultural sway for critical mass. It won't cleanup easy either, we're in for decades of messiness, but I don't think there's enough force to tip things fully one way or the other, and that's the world we live in now.

If you think the horseshit they're peddling is anything like "the likeness of the mind of man" then their propaganda worked on you.

You seriously misinterpreted the intent and the expression, didn't you.

There will never be enough compute (at our current technological level) to use AI for everyday tasks economically. The way to restrict the destruction of jobs by AI is to charge realistic prices for AI use and to apply the same environmental rules on data centers as on every other industrial application. Right now the greater fools subsidize AI use to the tune of tens of billions a year. This is completely unsustainable. Even our current crazy world will run out of greater fools eventually.

I watched the video. he actually told them that they should think about whether or not their career path is stable. this is good advice, and I'm glad he's saying it directly.
