the only two flock cameras in my area are right at the home depot. gotta make sure people aren't buying illicit sheds to hide immigrants in i guess.

Well that's... Unexpected from Proton. I was thinking it was a fake URL at first until I retyped it manually. Nice!

To me it's not so surprising, they've done other kinds of viral and guerilla marketing. Last one was download your info from competing chat bots and let you figure out how much they know about you. My opinion is those are smart moves that can don't cost a lot of money for the reach it gets them. Also considering the US is a large market and their mission of replacing the Apple / Google ecosystems with better alternatives kind of requires large markets to succeed, this (again) shows thet are not only in the business to serve Europeans.

I'm glad they are bringing more awareness, but they are missing a lot of cameras near me.

The FAQ at the bottom addresses that. This data set is a snapshot from December 2025. I know some came down in my area since that point, but they're still on this map.

Its kind of wild to me that not only is this legal but that Flock isn't obligated to make every camera location public.

As a company, Proton is striking me as Lawful Neutral; they have their code to live by and it will be followed. Not your code, their code. Take it or leave it.

Given the news about everyone else and their dealings... I dunno, I feel like this is a (performative?) step in the right direction overall.

I don't hate it, and it is reassuring to see this is where their development money goes as I already pay them for services, but only time will tell what their actual ethics really are. Corporates gonna corporate one way or another.

The digital world I was promised in my youth and the one I exist within as an adult are frighteningly different and I kinda hate it.
