Even if you are in a previously good sector like IT/CS, the "quality" of your job is likely decreasing with each year.

Software development and support both tend to get worse and more demanding over time with increased productivity demands, lack of respect for personal schedule constraints, after-hours and weekend maintenance and deployments, outsourcing and AI pressures. God forbid you are responsible for app or system patching as you will now be on the hook for perpetual vulnerability remediation.

Add to that the landscape for technical people is a lot of contracting but also random layoffs and outsourcing. Many people get brought on with what seems like a "high" salary without realizing they will likely never get a meaningful raise. So you basically have to change jobs every 3 years to stay ahead of inflation. If you stay in most IT jobs for 5 years you'll realize at the end of it you've taken a 20% paycut due to inflation plus lack of raises.
