If you flip through history books, hardly anyone has been caught in nearly as many lies whilst being allowed to stay in power.

In Denmark we had a party leader 20 years ago who lied about the content of a phone call, a relatively mild lie. But it was an outright lie, and he was removed as leader of the party, because he was deemed untrustworthy for doing that.
If you are untrustworthy, you can't participate in political negotiations.

American politics have no standards, and it's been normalized to lie in American politics, and USA is not a functioning democracy.

In bavarian state parliament we had a politician of the CSU calling a sex hotline for 10 hours with his parliament telephone

How long can one pay to talk about créme fromage bavarois before being reported?

That's more like corruption, using public funds for personal expenses.

So.. basically Danish Bill Clinton getting a blowjob in the oval orifice and lying about it, but the PG version?

The Bill Clinton situation was insane, that's what we call government looking under the bedding. Which is a description of overreach.
Yes he lied, but he was pressured into a situation that he should never have been in. Who the fuck cares if he got a blowjob in the office? Except of course pearl clutching religious fanatics.

So no this is not comparable, there was nothing pressuring the danish politician into making up the lie.

He didn't actually lie. Before he answered he asked for the definition of "sexual relations". It was defined in the court as

When a person "knowingly engages in or causes... contact with the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of any person with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person."

By that definition he was in the clear. He didn't see the PR trap.

3

Yes, and it wasn't relevant to his performance as president in any way. It's not like he started a trade war with Canada, or a war with Iran, or abandoned allies completely and instead was helping Russia.

But all those things are apparently OK. 🙄 🤥

I'd put lying about blowjobs above lying about calling a sex hotline, but you do you.

At least Bill could kind of play saxophone. Aside from Obama lurkers clutching necklaces harder he's the last decent president. Joe necklace breaks like young Bruce Wayne watching his Mom's pearls fall wasn't as mean as the Bush father & son FBI climaxes but Joe wasn't exactly not complicit in our current situation. You are categorically wrong, because a blowjob is not something a politician should ever be asked about. It was the result of years of investigation turning up nothing, and an investigation that went far beyond the mandate!

Also I never said anything about a sex hotline, you are confusing my comment you responded to with another comment.

Didn't it start as the Whitewater investigation?

2

Haha "the investigation". there were numerous investigations, and when they turned up with nothing, congress started their own.
And yes as far as I remember the Monica Lewinsky thing was a result of the Whitewater investigation. But far beyond the original mandate.
Republicans had just as much a witch hunt running against Bill Clinton as they had against Obama and later Biden where they tried to get to him through massive amounts of wild accusations against Hunter Biden.

It's absolutely sickening how the Republicans behave, and then the President that is actually a corrupt criminal rapist traitor, is shouting witch hunt for trying to prosecute cases where he is so obviously guilty, and for finding him guilty in things where he basically has admitted guilt!

In USA there are 2 sets of rules, one set for Republicans, and another for everybody else.

You can categorically go back to the beginning of the chain and figure out what I'm referencing, with respect. Or not.

However, context is key. If I said this while getting paid to say it with tax money, it'd be under a microscope. Now imagine this with sexual context.

Only William & Monica know what happened, but if it really did happen on government property under time that should've been used for work, that's not good.

You are referencing a comment by a third user u/Goldholz, why is that relevant as a response to me about which is worse?
You are confusing who you are responding to. I never made any claim about the other, except it's not a lie at all, it's corruption using government money for personal use.
You are simply not making any sense anymore. The 2 things are completely different, and I do not see any reason to compare them. As the issue from the beginning was about lying, and not about corruption or any other kind of wrongdoing that may be as bad or even worse.

The whole Watergate thing with Nixon was about phone calls, right?. American's had that waaay over 20 years ago

The whole Watergate thing with Nixon was about phone calls, right?

Nah, it was about people not OFFICIALLY (but almost certainly actually) connected to Nixon's reelection campaign breaking into the DNC offices at the Watergate hotel in order to steal sensitive election information and plant surveillance equipment.

Even more than that, though, it was about Nixon and his administration's subsequent coverup, since it couldn't be proven that the burglar spies, some of whom were formerly known as plumbers were acting on his orders.

The phone call connection is that some/most of the evidence was from the recordings of White House phone calls Nixon himself had insisted on due to his own paranoia.

I was at Hunter Thompson's funeral. They tried to shoot him out of a cannon that Johnny Depp paid for. His ash canister landed one county over, but hasn't yet been found. This is a true story. I'm aware of Nixon, sometimes a joke works better when you play dumb...but thank you for the context :)

Nice! 😄

Damn right! Sorry for stepping all over yours by missing it 😁

3

Your steps are welcome. I don't know why you triggered that memory, but thank you for doing so.

I did a pastel of the gonzo fist shaped cannon, I'll dig it from one of these piles if you'd like to see it....

Edit: oh yeah, Hunter fucking hated Nixon.

Jake Broe stated yesterday that Ukraine hasn't attacked Russian oil refineries for 5 days now, and this looks like a secret agreement to keep access to Starlink. Speculated to be an agreement running until the election is over.

This would of course very likely be illegal manipulation of the election and abuse of office for personal gains.
But Trump is a traitor and corrupt and a criminal so that doesn't in the slightest change an evaluation whether Trump would do that.
