Eby says "Dur dur, I called an election REALLY early, while my opponent was a temp milquetoast bland inoffensive/generic leader, and I'm losing to the temp in the polls. No one can be "totally sure" whether the new 'permanent leader' will be racist/extremist, or a generic normal conservative, so we haven't been able to drum up as much animosity/fear of them being Trump-like. Me smart guy, trust me lead you long time, very good judgiements!"

At this point, if people want a more sane leader, it may actually be better to tell people "Hurry up and join the conservative party, so you can vote in their internal leader selection process, which will effectively be choosing the next premier post-election".

It's almost starting to feel like the NDP did it to get out of their commitments, because they realised a bunch of their commitments couldn't work for some reason. Like they'd had budget balancing issues for a while, and they can't do anything about UNDRIP controlling their agenda, etc etc -- so they threw their hands up and pushed their long list of issues onto the next people, with the intent of using what results as leverage for their next campaign cycle. "If we'd just been kept in power, we could've completed all these things we had promised, started, and then bailed on to call a stupid election last time around! Vote us back in!".

I'm not as cynical as you but there are grains of truth in your insight...

DRIPA and the Cowichan court case was tearing the party apart from the inside, the public sector union negotiations were prolonged fights that hemorrhaged labour support, whatever they did negotiate combined with US tariff-related economic slowdowns blew big holes in the already optimistic budget. The LNG pipeline stuff and deal with the feds helped with funding Massey replacement tunnel and some of the problems with the budget, at the expense of the environmentally-minded BCNDP cohort. I think part of Eby's calculation in calling the election is that he couldn't get much done over the next 2 years to enact his promises with his own slim caucus majority strongly divided.

Watch the BC Conservatives increase your bills after their pretending game is over.

I mean what is the alternative? Why are the liberals not an option? I mean the NDP have been increasing your provinces debt and you have gone through a couple downgrades for credit.

I mean debt is not bad and it seems they have been doing at least realtivly good things with it. But what is their plan to pay back?

For years the BC liberal party was practically the federal Conservatives party with known groups working within both parties during campaigns for election. A few years back the BC Liberal party practically collapsed with people moving over to another party that lasted for such a short amount of time that I can't even remember what it was called United BC or BC United. It collapsed and now we're left with NDP and the BC conservatives, and the Green party.
