I'm about 25 percent into the article and this part seems important:

While i like the idea of sex cults; I don't like the idea of being in a sex cult full of racist techbros that hold the religious belief that AM will go terminator on us.

I feel like you only need first principles and solve precautionary logic to care about AI safety. Not some pseudo-intellectual circle-jerk-first.

I think poly people can be a bit odd but you have to be pretty fucking conservative in your values to call that a sex cult.

...

On further reading, Aella does seem pretty fucking problematic. Sex is great, drugs can be great, but both require a ton of responsibility... especially CNC orgies... You can't fly that fast and not crash.

I'm not blaming the drugs, but don't be surprised if people with good intentions fuck up when they can't think straight. And she sounds extra irresponsible and wanting to push every limit.

Reading this, it took me a minute to remember where I'd previously seen Aella online. It turns out she is the model who went majorly viral on Reddit years ago for staging /GoneWild photo shoots in which she was terrorized by gnome statues.

This seems to be an important form of social tie in this group. These people are some of the most influential, if not the most influential people in AI Safety.

Just because anybody's a sex pervert doesn't mean they're wrong about something completely other than sex.

Adopting that judgement about their person means that only white Christian monogamous hetero cis men are valued for their expertise.

I urge you to read beyond the headline. The author intentionally buries the lede; it is too obscene to be taken seriously if stated flat. I agree with your statement.

This piece is not some ad homenim attacking the character of these prominent AI safety figures, using this attack on their character to claim that their work on AI safety is wrong/incorrect/invalid because of their sex cult.

This is about exposing the power dynamics which core leaders of AI safety groups which are highly influential across tech in SF. These persons fetishistically prefer simulated rape, and are bonded together by this preference.

All of the main content of rationalism is a trick. Every time Yudkowsky’s writing explains some trick your brain can pull, it is the magician showing you his sleeves while he palms a card: it is meant to convince you that whatever trick he is about to do next is impossible, and to prevent you from figuring out how it was done or ever believing it had happened

For the Rationalists in the audience: The purpose of explaining Pascal’s Mugging was to make you think you had figured it out so that you would believe you were too smart and well-informed to be Pascal’s Mugged, and to make it impossible to convince you that it had happened to you later once it had.

I agree that they are a really creepy bunch of people with very large egos, but I'm not sure about it being an organised cult.
