Electric vehicles should be seen as a matter of national security
Given the fact that diesel prices are skyrocketing and we may about to see mass shortages, we need to start demanding electrification for the sake of economic stability.
The technology has become so much cheaper it's absolutely insane what US automotive and oil companies have been doing to stifle this advance.

"Diesel prices." Bah. Prohibit the burning of fossil fuels. There's no need for the government to "pick a winner" when it comes to alternatives. Ride a bicycle, walk, get around on a steam train or a sailboat, an electric bus or just stay at home. Whatever. Triple the price of diesel and petrol today, make them completely unavailable tomorrow.
Special arrangements will need to be made for agriculture, yes. But not for personal ownership of passenger cars, which we'd be collectively better off without.
So, crash the entire global economy then?
If the entire global economy cannot run without oil products then the entire global economy needs to be replaced. It's kind of a big project, I know. Should've started thirty years ago. There's not much time left to get it done.
