Great episode. We see Gyro's past and that his family is a family of executioners. Executing an uninvolved nine year old in a treason case is effed up, and Gyro winning the Steel Ball Run is the only way for the boy's life to be spared.
Regarding the ED:
::: spoiler Manga spoiler I just realized it foreshadowed Diego Brando from Another World and his THE WORLD stand. The whole ED is inside a time stop. :::
Lastly, the alt-universe Stroheim appears and tries to kill Gyro with superior German Science! However, he's no match to Gyro and his, uhm... balls of steel. To top it off, he did it in absolutely cinematic fashion.
