Seeking advice- TL/DR my boss is committing fraud

Seeking legal advice.

I work at a tiny "MSP" (Managed service provider) - We do computer administration and repairs for companies that don't want to hire their own staff- so I do IT for approx. 25 different companies in my area, and hundreds more residential customers. When I started the company had two owners/partners, and one has since retired. The remaining owner is the one doing what I'm about to describe.

I have caught ownership here many, MANY times in the past inflating my outgoing bills by more than 200%. Example: I billed 1 hour labor to "Company X". Invoice went out with 2+ hours of labor billed. They've been editing my completed service tickets without my knowledge and inflating bills to customers. Most more than double-charged. I caught them in the act with proof and threatened if they ever did it again I'd walk. I now log and have document proof of what I billed to who, and some of our best customers (The ones who I trust and value personally and who trust me) know to call me if anything looks "off" about ANY invoice they receive before they pay it. After my ticket gets billed, I go back and examine it before the mail can even arrive at a customer's mailbox. If it's wrong, I raise hell.

NOW/Today September 2026- I took a long vacation. Get back from vacation and over the next few weeks I discover that while I was out, the owner of my company massively overcharged every customer I'd normally have worked on, (again, this place is a tiny, TINY shop) including billing customers for work that never occurred. On these service tickets/Invoices there are actual, prove-able lies. I doubt customers have read/received these invoices yet, but I expect that when they do we will have many angry phone calls.

NOW My boss IS shit at this job. Obviously being shit at your job is not a crime, and being incompetent is not illegal, but lying is. Fraud is. Many of us have incompetent managers, bosses, etc, hopefully yours aren't crooks like mine.

Today's discovery: 8.75 hours of labor (over 3 different tickets in 3 weeks) billed to a good customer we've serviced for over a decade. $1155+tax and every single word on every single invoice an outright lie. I asked about the tickets and again, a stream of lies and anger.

(He doesn't throw me out/fire me because I'm holding the place together)

What in the world is the right thing to do? Is there a proper "person" to speak to, LEGALLY- in a situation like this?!

Extremely bummed about this situation, because I otherwise like my job and am good at it. Have many customers I've helped here, and could almost certainly start a business of my own doing this and get the customers I'd need to survive on- but otherwise there isn't other work like this in my area.

Find an attorney in your local area and consult with them. That initial consultation will almost certainly be free.

Honestly, you might need more than just general legal advice here.
