On the healthiness of not cumming (disclaimer)

NSFW

tl:dr: Extended orgasm denial - a subject extensively fetishized in this community - may be unhealthy. Do it at your own risk, listen to your body, maybe consult a health professional, and drain if/when you're concerned.

~

Update: extra caution and encouragement to consult a urologist is advised in males 60+, with prostate symptoms, history of prostate surgery, or who are under the care of a urologist.

There's a common notion in the online chastity community that it is harmful for a male to go weeks or months without ejaculating. The rationale goes more or less like prostatic fluid builds up, ejaculatory muscles might atrophy, pressure builds up, and these may lead to prostate dysfunction (ie, biological difficulty or inability to drain prostatic fluid) or prostate cancer.

There is some scientific evidence to support such a link between ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer, which is a common male cancer.

However, these findings often compare low-frequency to high-frequency ejaculation groups (they do not include no-masturbation groups), they do not account for important third variables like (like overall physical or mental health, relationship status), and these studies are situated within a Western (medical) paradigm with its own set of assumptions and don't usually recognize examples of healthy sexual abstinence in other cultures (e.g., monks, nuns).

It is a medical fact that prostatic fluid can be drained by prostate massage, or milking, without an orgasm or significant pleasure to a male.

I hope to read up and get more informed on this subject. This looks like a good resource for getting started: Ejaculation Frequency and Prostate Cancer Risk: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence

Your statements are insanely dangerous to male health. Yes, there are methods to get the fluid build up out of the prostrate without orgasms - but these methods are not reliably and steadily available to most men, and even if they were those methods still do reduce the prostrates ability to empty itself (i.e. to ejaculate) permanently. And that is a damage no men wants.

The fluids start to solidify after only several hours, and that becomes a serious problem after a few weeks... It's difficult getting solidified build up out of the prostrate, and that's what starts prostate inflammation. Ask urologists about what they find in older mens hardened and enlarged prostrates - it's crass, and it comes from not emptying the prostate in a satisfying way. It really is a problem.

So all this caging and denying can end with prostate problems far more problematic than most men imagine. Don't do that for any longer than a nice kinky evening session with your partner. And then ejaculate the way it's intended and healthy.

When your prostate starts hurting in a very specific way you'll know what I am warning about. You don't want your prostate to hurt in that very specific way. You really don't want that.

Evidence-based and respectful dissent is certainly welcome here. Mansplaining and then downvoting without responding is not. ladicius has been banned

Your comments amount to mansplaining, fear-mongering, and insisting that others should sexually stimulate themselves the same way that you do.

You’re conflating prostatitis and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), which serves as a reminder that there are at least 6 different outcomes to look at to comprehensively explore the health effects of no-fap /no-orgasm (eg, prostatitis, BPH, painful ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, inability to empty, prostate cancer).

Prostate conditions like BPH increase with age in older men, and aging is an incredibly complex and multi-faceted process (eg, physical changes, mood changes, appetite, libido, associated accrual of comorbidities). You’re implying that abstaining from fapping causes similar effects to the prostate as decades of aging. Obviously that’s fallacious.

You’re also discounting the different ways that betas do drain prostatic fluid (e.g., by anal stimulation, it comes out it pee, leaking, wet dreams). (This is purely hypothetical but it’s well-established that nocturnal erections are a biological mechanism to maintain erectile function; similar systems for prostatic fluid release seem plausible.)

It’s also worth noting that urologic health in 2SLGBTQI+ populations is under-researched. Existing literature on ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer, and your comments, are steeped in a Western cishet ‘males must fap to be healthy’ framework, which is hardly universal (or an adequate understanding of male sexual health).

Of course, the primary (modifiable) risk factors of BPH, for example, are obesity, lack of physical exercise, unhealthy diet, and comorbidities like type II diabetes (source). These same risk factors are associated with pretty much everything else that might kill you (add smoking to that list). These are all good targets for maintaining or improving your health, and will probably give you better ‘bang for your buck’ than be sure to fap at least once a day (“The fluids start to solidify after only several hours”).

“Listen to your body” is a point we seem to agree upon. I think I’m going to update the post to suggest extra caution and encouragement to consult a urologist in persons 60+, with prostate symptoms, history of prostate surgery, or are under the care of a urologist. I will add to the sidebar that I’d like for this to primarily be a creative, community-oriented, aesthetic, and scientific community
