I'm curious what Finland thought Google was going to do with the 815 acres of forest they sold them? Like, there was zero chance Google bought it in order to keep it a forest. It sounds to me like Finland failed here too and can't pass it all off on Google.
Sounds like the government was 100% on board with this.
Lots of companies buy land to use as false "carbon offsets". Basically, "we prevent this forest from getting logged so it counts against the emissions we produce"
I wish that wasn't allowed
Then Finland needs to change its laws so that it isn't allowed.
different branches of government, some people who are angry are just regular citizens, and some of the anger is directed at not following proper legal procedure (which may have saved the forests)
Fuck google.
Man, I wonder if Polish Tree Law is as unforgiving as it is in other parts of the world. Google might not bother with the datacenter any more if they end up needing to pay for reforestation.
It sounds like the government knew exactly what was going to happen with the land and approved if of it.

Cartoonish villainy.
And they'll get fined $Profits - x where x < profits
And be happy.

I have no hope that these billionaire scumbags will ever face any real justice.
I wonder if þe politicians who allowed þis will face any consequences?
