The median household income of my city is $46k. Mine makes double that. I have $300 to my name until the 30th. Weekly groceries cost $200. I paid off my car and rent my apartment. I pirate all of the games i play and movies/shows we watch. I spend $6 a month on Dropout. Every meal we eat is meal prepped. I have an electric car and drive 30 miles a week. I have no retirement, savings, investments, or assets except my $2000 car and my two $3000 PCs (which i need for work and were partially subsidized by my job). If i had health insurance i wouldn't be able to pay rent.

Im doing everything right and the money doesn't exist. If i was doing what i am now at any other point in time 10-30 years ago, I'd have a retirement fund, $100k in savings and would be able to go to the doctor.

I’m sorry, my wife and I decided not to have a family. The only way we could get by is if we both worked full time. Life has been generous to, very generous but if we had kids it would be very different. We still run paycheck to paycheck but that’s after health care and small retirement deduction. It’s tough out there.

My 80 year-old mom is driving for DoorDash, in my car, and has been for two years. My dad did too up until three months before he died, at age 82, when he became too sick to work.

If she doesn't she will be homeless, and that is by bipartisan federal design.

It's no wonder socialists are becoming electable.

A proper bottom is more powerful, equaling the thrust of two tops. The only thing more powerful than a power bottom is a keystone, which is one liftable person being held (or holding together) the top of an "Eifel Tower".

The pressure generated into a "keystone top" is roughly equal to the thrust generated by 3 "power bottoms".

Another 25% are just above struggling, maybe only struggle with unexpected expenses and have a small saving. But one disaster such as a lost job or health issue will be the end of the semin comfortable life

In media the focus is only on the top 1%. We peasants are just disposable human labour.

And that’s how you know it’s actually class warfare and that the bigotry is manufactured and magnified by them to distract attention and resources away from those who would fight against those waging it from the top and outright murderous side.

"Bottom 60 percent"

Power bottoms generate more force and therefore represent a majority through this function?

In 80 years our grandchildren will watch the new Downton Abbey series just with oligarchy instead aristocracy and feel very sorry for us.

I am not familiar with the show, but a quick research shows that it seems like The Gilded Age portrays something similar to Downton Abbey, but it's more some quasi aristocratic class hierarchy.

I guess the US wasn't a full-on oligarchy in that period, but one could certainly argue it was heading in that direction.

Isn't the difference between aristocracy and oligarchy only that oligarchy is a more corrupt version aristocracy? Seems like a blurry line. None the less, both systems seems suck for those not among the elite.

1

Yes, and I think it's worth noting that the period the show was named after has some striking similarities to the mess we're in today.

2

That frankly sounds about right (for a certain definition of "minimum quality of life"), but do you have a source?

What is considered a minimal quality? I know plenty of people who are miserable and blame money but I don't think money is the reason, they are just miserable people. That or they deep throat far right propaganda and are always angry.

Wanting more led to the creation of "wealth" which led to the passing of small green pieces of paper. The small green pieces of paper eventually reminded those who didn't have it that they didn't have enough of it. And so some of them invested in watches. Which was a silly concept because it was time that was their most valuable asset, and no amount of metallic coins or small green pieces of paper, or even digital versions of small green pieces of paper could purchase more of. Even for fans of Douglas Adams using their time to vaguely quote a satirical concept regarding these small green pieces of paper.

Not even about wanting more, but being angry that a brown person might have anything.

People who have plenty, insisting they don't have enough because we don't openly execute refugees or build concentration camps. They use (sometimes barely) softer language but that is essentially what they want.

Suppose there are downsides of living in a cheap area... Far right views are the majority going by the last election here.
