Hydrogen trucks at diesel prices? These truck makers want a guarantee you’d never pay more
Would you buy a hydrogen truck if someone guaranteed it would cost no more to run than a diesel? That is the offer H2Accelerate wants the EU to make to hauliers. The group, which includes Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, Linde and TotalEnergies, is proposing a European mechanism that would pay the remaining difference in total cost of ownership (TCO) between hydrogen and diesel trucks. The money would follow hydrogen use or kilometres driven, not truck purchases, and would come from the EU's 2028–2034 budget.
