Those files must be huge if they're slowly uploading. That's "HD" for you.

I found this thread with some more info on what they're doing: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1633188-before-toy-story%E2%80%A6-there-was-reboot/

Before Toy Story, there was ReBoot—the first fully computer-animated TV show. Thought lost to time and decay, we partnered with the Reboot Rewind team and Kioxia to bring the original, uncompressed masters back to life. Join us as we try to fix the incredibly rare, $300k D1 tape deck needed for preservation!

Hey, Bryan from ReBoot ReWind here!

The tapes were 720x576i50, but always rendered as full frames to produce a 720x576p25 frame without compression. The video track is essentially an uncompressed bitmap. There are also 4 audio tracks in full digital audio that we capture. The capture process is directly via SDI for video and digital audio via XLR into our capture PC.

For my editing machine, I have the Kioxia drives attached via a PCIe riser. My X570 platform is a bit limited on PCIe lanes, so I currently have one drive active in my host as the scratch and storage. Each episode is roughly 50GB raw. We render them back as a Prores 4444 maintaining the same aspect ratio and color profiles as the source, and that gets us down to roughly 16GB per tape. We're looking into some m-discs for long-term archival as well as other means to ensure the data doesn't degrade.

I have a 5700X3D processor and a RTX 3080 in the rig. The video pipeline I scripted is currently 100% CPU bound, so I can saturate the 5700X3D to get about 25-35fps when rendering or jogging to verify the fixes. With my old SSDs, there was a noticeable slowdown in random reads when trying to jog. When you're going frame-by-frame, it becomes painful.

I'm happy to answer any other questions!
