According to the German Wikipedia, there are some hints, that this machine wasnt built by the Nazis.

"However, there is also speculation that it is not actually a German-made tank and that the above assumptions are incorrect[2], but rather that it is a Russian-made hoax:

The tank would be far too conspicuous and too slow to serve as a reconnaissance vehicle The small rear wheel would immediately get stuck in rough terrain The armor is completely inadequate The welds on the exhibit are of such poor quality that it looks more like a Russian than a German product. There is no mention whatsoever in either German or Russian archives of the construction or capture of this vehicle, which is highly unlikely for such an extraordinary piece of equipment.

The only exbibit is placed in a russian tank museum.

But at the end of the war, the nazis designed and built a lot of wild/useless stuff. Like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreuzer_P._1000_Ratte

That's some classic German shade.

I could absolutely buy it as a random prototype, this is exactly the kind of thing that got made at the end, when they were desperate to make every soldier count.

Almost looks like it's using Fred Flintstone propulsion.
