It worse when it's a school policy and also as policy they don't have bells.

I often had to say the dreaded words "You are dismissed when I say you are dismissed" to my middle schoolers who thought they could pull a fast one on me and try to leave 10 minutes early.

For me, they keep an eye on the clock, watching for the last minute. All students know not to say 'Class over.' to my face by this point.

Man I always hated this, because it IS actually the bell's job to say when we leave - because if we don't, then we're late to the next teacher's lesson, who then either has to do the same thing, or cut their teaching plan short to compensate - neither of which is a fair deal for us or that next teacher

On the flip side, I had a super chill Physics teacher at the end of the day one year and he would regularly let us slip out like 2 minutes early, which was just enough time to get to the parking lot and beat the busses which would block traffic leaving for 20 minutes.

It was kind of nice, it meant getting home much earlier.

Thats shit was the most stupid stuff ever. I got scolded really bad and got a warning and a talk with (what i can best translate to) my homeroom teacher for being late and my reason was "if the bell doesnt dismiss us, it doesnt start the class either". In highschool it was very different, i went to a very good one and they actually respected students like they were people not just stupid little kids.

From the bells POV, yes because the teacher now dismisses the students, a job previously handled by the bell.

You reached the end
