Is SuperStation One worth it?

I’m a huge fan of my Analouge pocket. I love the compatibility and the drop in and play nature of games and cores.

Hoping for a similar home console experience. Is the Superstation one similar enough ? Is it worth the price ? (I know it’s fairly cheap for a mister)

Im enjoying mine! But I went into it knowing it was a Mister, and it needed some tweaking to get right.

If you're expecting an Analogue experience, this won't be it just yet. The new UI is good, really good, but you still need to kind of know how a Mister works to get the most out of it. File locations and stuff, scripts, images (ROMs), etc.

But for the sheer amount of analog video outputs and the ability to use Playatstion accessories from the start is neat. Open the side port to enable an extra accessory dongle called a SNAC adapter to plug in light guns.

Plus it can play things other than just Playatation games, so you get that bonus.

My review of the SuperStation is: oof

For a drop-in replacement for a Playstation, it's not nearly good enough. The disc drive add-on shipped without working. There was no UI aside the default MiSTer menu. The PS1 controller ports don't work by default. No documentation. No communication. Extremely rough out-of-the-box experience. I was not happy.

As a cheap MiSTer... maybe?

Have you used it since they released the new UI layer? Is MISTer any easier to set up?

I bought the SSO and haven't opened it yet, waiting for the software to not be a full-time project, so I'm not asking snidely. I just thought it was essentially a full-fledged MISTer for a cheap price and as a bonus has a few bells & whistles and a nice hardware shell, and also that MISTer is at least as unfriendly to set up. So I'm confused.

If the Game UI update is finally out and ready for deployment, I wasn't aware of that. I knew that they had an alpha demo of it available for testing, but I'm not being paid to test. All the github pages make no mention of a release candidate, nor anything about the SuperDock getting disc reading functionality. It also seems like the composite output can't use the new console mode and is stuck on the old MiSTer menu, so I don't believe for a second that 1.1.1 is an actual release candidate even though that's where they started their versioning.

Got it.

Well, just trying to get the benefit of your experience, so let me ask a different way: my impression is that Taki Udon overpromised, teasing the SSO as an OoB console-like experience, but - while that isn't ready yet - right now for the money it seems like a good and cheap MISTer with some future potential. Would you disagree with that assessment?

........maaaaaaybe?

I'm probably not the right person to ask. I deliberately avoided MiSTers up until now, because of how needlessly complex they sounded. So I stuck with the AVS, the SuperNT, the MegaSG, etc etc etc.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the only reason I would see this as a poor MiSTer is because of the wacky communication and documentation.

I really do hope it shapes up and turns out to be an outstanding product, but as-is... I could see development being abandoned tomorrow without anyone ever knowing.

Mister is very easy to set up tbh. Adding and curating games requires some effort. Getting one for a regular price is the issue. Got lucky with "mister pi"

Still, I'm always on the lookout for a more consolized version instead of the amateur looking sandwich.
