Wait are you saying Carney is a stpp gap solution and doesn't give a shit about acthally solving the crisis because he is a neoliberal banker?
Stop-gap? Brother he is actively dismantling the whole goddamn thing. He is the problem.
As compared to Polievre but yeah
They’re almost identical, when it comes down to it. We can’t really vote against the CPC by voting LPC, so all the “better than PP” crap is less than meaningless. We also don’t live in a two party system and have the NDP who are objectively, despite any criticism, leagues better than either of our conservative parties.
I understand we have those options from the NDP now and a principled, capable organizer in Avi Lewis, but what was then-leader of the NDP Jagmeet Singh going to do in response to Carney had he been re-elected? "Fight fight fight?" Work together with Carney to be doublecrossed with Conservatives and let promises be broken or delayed later anyway? Singh was indeed effective and instrumental as leader in getting Liberal concessions to economic, social and environmental justice throughout his term, but at that moment he didn't have the right response to threats at our doorstep.
I also understand the frustration and feeling tricked or backstabbed that Carney's book Values isn't fully reflective of his governance. Still, I tell many people they need to look at the full picture of what was going on at the time in early to mid- 2025, and what was at stake.
Agree with you, except Values was fucking terrible
Ok…so you actually understand that Singh and the NDP were really good about using coalition to make sure their voters got represented even without being the ones in power(rare, and good that you do). But see the problem is that Carney has actively weakened us at every turn.
What we need is a party willing to actually bolster the working class here at home, and that’s what the NDP aim for. They are the ones who will stand up against the culture that allows these foreign attacks to propogate. They are not stupid people, and their economics are well supported to show that the ROI on their spending makes it the most fiscally responsible option.
Carney, on the other hand, is selling us off to US private equity and handing our tax dollars over to foreign oil and gas companies. He’s attacking unions, essentially ignoring the housing crisis(well, besides at least an $8.7B handout to Ontario developers in the form of fee reduction), and bringing conservative MPs into his party. When the US first bombed Iran and killed all those school children he was there in less than 24 hours saying “we will support the US in this without condition”. He is a complete and utter bastard goblin and he wasn’t hiding it, either.
The LPC as a party is a whole other thing. Constantly doing the bare minimum to make sure they kept margainally ahead of the CPC is not anything to congratulate. In 2015 they got elected largely on the promise of updating our voting system and they scrapped the whole plan for being “too hard” after they realized that they would essentially never win again without being able to use FPTP to weaponize the fear of the CPC getting in power. It was so blazenly anti-democratic the party should have been obliterated at the next election AND YET. The NDP used ranked-choice for selecting Lewis, and it was great.
To say there is any nuance which would actually make the LPC look better than the NDP is complete nonsense.
I agree the NDP is in that position, or at least preparing to be there now.
I wasn't comparing the LPC with the NDP directly as parties here, mostly the leaders. The party and leader to beat in Apr 2026 was the CPC and Poilievre. My point is that before anyone starts blaming would-be NDP voters in 2025, looking at the point-in-time context, Singh wasn't up to the task at hand at dealing with Trump which was top of mind, while Carney was. The 6-week free trial of Carney we got gave us the sense he would be a neolib 90s style liberal, so aside from the qualifiers in my last comment, people shouldn't be too surprised.
I also don't like when Carney licks USA boot but he did show some spine this one time in August when absolutely everybody thought the Canadian negotiating team was going to capitulate to some very bad terms. Overall, I find he speaks very well to the room, which is why I despise his crowd-pleasing "great again" rhetoric while visiting the USA, but like what he says in Europe. It is him being shifty and two-faced, but as far as world leaders go, being competent and aware would give him a passing grade. I will continue to complement the LPC when they do things I like, and criticize them and also complain to my local LPC MP when they do things I don't. There's a solid amount of each.
Ok…so you claimed with very little basis that Singh wasn’t up to the task at hand, claimed that Carney was, then admitted that he has been almost entirely useless(licking USA boot actually makes him complicit and, frankly, a traitor as well being a massive understatement), and you still aren’t getting it?! Carney has done almost nothing truly positive and, as usual, anything good has been stuff the NDP would have done better. Right now I’m seeing ads for the Canadian dental plan, a thing which the NDP made happen through coalition, because they can’t help but take credit for the thing they were forced to do by better people.
I swear to god, you “strategic voters” must have some kind of fetish or some kind of unaddressed psychological trauma that leads you to these decisions. I wish you had just been normal stupid, but instead your admissions that Carney has been shit, while still defending him, just kinda leaves me with an intense feeling hopelessness. It’s truly depressing sharing a country with you and knowing that, outside of the truly brain-dead CPC voters, millions of Canadians can see the correct answers, agree they’re correct, and then still shoot themselves, and everyone else, in the foot.
For the love of fuck, please listen to even just yourself.
There is money to be made in an ice free Arctic after all.
He also doesn't believe in climate change, right?
He's another corporate schmuck. He wrote a book about how important the environment is, to look like a well meaninged leader. But he never actually cared.
The UN came out about a month ago and said we’re past the point of no return on climate change. The fight is over. We just have to mitigate and hope for the best.
Talk of oil pipelines will do that.
Hmmm, it's almost like a oil pipeline was always going to do this. Yah no shit, I like carney but I knew this was likely always going to happen.
LPC voters should be ashamed.
Blaming voters is weird here, voting options were:
we dodged Pete, which IMO is good. Voting for jagmet would be more likely to elect Pete. Carney sucks for sure, bit telling people who voted for him strategically to be ashamed is victim blaming, and not getting them presumably on your side.
If we had some kind of proportional rep, I'd be ashamed.
Vote for one of two virtually identical ideological Conservatives or a center leaning leftist.
Tough choice.
Your implying Pete would be equally bad?
It's not an implication. They have almost the same ideology. It would be nearly the same results.
Mass sell off of assets. Placation to U.S/Israel. Insane military spending. Continued TFW program abuse, surveillance dragnet installation, environmental regulation destruction, public policy deception.
