The GOAT bird
Great Lakes region, USA. October 2026.
IMO there is no better bird than the black-capped chickadee. Small but mighty, adorable, smart, vigilant, and curious. They'll land on my shoulder and check me out, sing me song when I'm feeling down. When the other birds are away the chickadee is still ready to play. Winter or summer, spring or fall, the chickadee stand above all.

Here in North Carolina, we have this fella's cousin, the Carolina Chickadee! Looks identical, but is ever-so-slightly smaller. Great pics as always, love these guys.
Love a chickadee, such fun birds to watch
I'm terrible at identifying bird calls, then here comes the chickadee singing their name like real life Pokémon.
You are a hero with that lenses. You bring our bird books to life.
Chickadees are the bravest birds at my feeder and are always interesting to watch
