5.2 on IMDB doesn't look that promising. Also sadly Stephen Chow for a decade or two hasn't been able (or tried) to replicate the heights of Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle or his earlier comedies. Sad, because he used to be full of ideas and laughs, and those got swapped for big budget bland stuff mostly.
Yeah part of the appeal of those movies was that they were sleepers that set themselves REALLY far apart from generic blockbusters and did so in hilarious and heartwarming cute ways.
the trailer looks fire.
We have officially run out of ideas.
Fuck China, their constant unceasing push into US Film and television is like watching somebody fill a well with strange liquid which you can only assume is poison.
Every penny they make in another country is a penny towards war and suffering.
Stephen has been making films and releasing them internationally for a decade before Hong Kong was handed back to china. Stephen made movies for several decades more, before China ever came in and exerted their influence. I'm not a fan or defender of the state. But do you have any evidence that Chow is enabling it? Having seen all his movies that would seem pretty unusual for him.
Yeah:
Okay, and? Are you claiming he supports them simply because he's not outright banned? I may be making mistake but I'm trying to find some logic here.
I will be honest. As someone who watches a lot of Hong Kong film. I have been extremely worried about such things happening to them. And being forced on to them. Which for the most part I have yet to see. I think it's probably coming sooner or later. But so far that's not the case.
Two years ago when Twilight of the Warriors came out and was getting crazy awesome reviews globally. I was actually pretty amazed to see how mainland China was allowed to be portrayed in that. Now that may just be because it was pre-dengism mainland china. Not the current gang of criminals in charge of the state. So they probably didn't have any big issue with it not being portrayed glowingly.
So how is this working for you? Is Blizzard and World of Warcraft a Chinese psyop? The World of Warcraft movie strangely was huge in China years ago too. Is this something other than reactionary cringe? Have you seen Stephen's movies? He does live action Looney toons and fantasy.
Stephen Chow has been appointed to China’s top political advisory body, the CCPCC. And yes, if you're a famous filmmaker across a nation which controls its media such as China, North Korea, or the USSR then 9 out of 10 times you're a bad person. The only exception is the people who refuse to continue working with those places and when the inevitably persecution arrives from that decision they flee the country.
Also, Fuck Activision and the WoW movie was dogshit. But at least it took value from Chinese coffers instead of the other way around.
Almost like calling Bernie Sanders a trumper because he's in the federal government. Not a perfect analogy with how controlling and oppressive the national party is. But not far off. The province appointing someone as well known, influential and popular as Chow makes a lot of sense. And if that's all it is, I fail to see the controversy.
I've seen you around. You would fail to see controversy if Xi Jinping personally came into your house and killed your favorite pet.
I also have you tagged as "Fact Troll", if that helps anybody else. 👍
Literally the appointment was 13 years ago. If there was anything actually controversial about it. You'd be pointing out more than the fact he was appointed. And if you'd seen me around. You'd know how hilarious implying I was a leninist or tankie was.. Lol they love to call me a shitlib for my constant criticism of china for rational reasons.
Nobody tell him about Hollywood anti-Arab propaganda machine fueling wars.
Ah yes "Nazis 2: Semitic Boogaloo"
The worst part is the propaganda isn't even necessary. The human rights abuses from the Arabic states are horrific enough.
If your excuse for Chinese cinema is that USA allies with Israel, then you'll be quite sad to hear China has multiple ongoing genocides at home and plans to start more. And they also helped start the most recent war and resulting starvation in Gaza.
