Halloween (1978) - First time watching it, did not remember this was a John Carpenter film. It really holds up, modern horror movies could learn from it
I've watched it before but a lot definitely went over my head until I watched some companion vids on all the symbols that are baked into the set. I'm not sure I believe all the people who say it's making a direct link to Epstein (though the one character being a math teacher is... interesting), but I do think Kubrick was definitely onto something with how some of these secret societies operate and sit at the reins of power.
Resident Evil was great! Funny and gruesome and delightful. The main character was believably inept; it very effectively evoked being really bad at a game on your first playthrough.
I was honestly a bit surprised Onslaught was an A24 film, it seemed a little cheesy for that.
Also, broke A24's formula about things being metaphors for trauma. For once, trauma itself is the metaphor for trauma (in other words, not a metaphor). Who knew?
Matchbox was goofy, and probably didn't land like they'd hoped, but it's definitely in the wheelhouse of Mattel leaning in to goofy movies based on their properties. Has vague vibes similar to Masters of the Universe in terms of goofiness. So, middling, but enjoyable.

Zach Cregger does not miss. Highly recommend
Onslaught and Matchbox.
