Russian Trolls moderating Lemmy communities post anti-voting propaganda, then censor/ban you when you point it out
Lemmy has it's share of trolls, but we also have our share of russian propaganda trying to influence our election. This specific moderator of a very large Lemmy community (LateStageCapitalism) has been posting "democrats are actually the fascists!" memes, while banning/censoring everyone who speaks out in favor of the very people attempting to thwart the literal fascist regime in power right now.

Alright, this is just turning into a mud-slinging festival and I have other things to do today rather than babysit my mod reports. I'm shutting this down. Relax, you lot.
Lemmy is a big propaganda outlet for Russia. I’ve been banned from hexbear and .ml for pointing out the obvious bullshit. They even upvoted me after I congratulated them on Trump’s second term.
As always, the best solution is to create a new LateStageCapitalism community on another instance with a moderation policy that better matches your expectations (not to discourage PSAs like this, just like, as a next step).
I second this. And im also banned from that community because I said some post was nonsense and explained the difference between socialism and capitalism and that's how that went.
There are plenty of things to discuss under the topic of late stage capitalism. So just make a new community for it. I'll subscribe.

The next two elections, these mid-terms and the next presidential election, are probably the most important in our young nations history. We can absolutely still make a difference through voting, voter outreach, and community organizing. Any doomer posts designed to dissuade action and voting just screams of the same interference we've come to expect from russia and their allies.
I won't turn a blind eye while my beloved Lemmy becomes inundated with power-abusing trolls trying to quash dissent to their lame efforts at manipulation.
For now, being banned from that instance is a badge of honor and intelligence. Congrats!

The have the same name and post about the same topics they arent hiding it. The reason they switched is likely because their more extreme instance was defederated for that exact behaviour
the Mastodon account is their oldest, and the .world account is second oldest. the newest account is the .ml account.
In what reality would someone think that deleting every top level comment that obviously disagrees with the post is a good look...on top of the post being "Let's not vote and let all the people who do vote decide who runs everything. That'll show 'em!"

I'll say this, I won't vote for a neo-liberal president again and the amount of push back I get for that despite my circumstances shows there's no real divergence there.

I think Lemmy is to the left of Reddit personally, there seems to be a lot more tankies, commies, Hollywood democrats, and so on, and less of everybody else. Even party-line Democrats are rare (or quiet).

I'm okay with even actual Russians posting, it's the mod banning/censorship abuse that bothers me. But this is not a free speech platform, I don't know if there is one.
I mean, in a sense it is a free speech platform. The mods of any given instance can ban you, sure, but there exists no instance or higher authority in the network that can ban you from lemmy or the fediverse as a whole, even if every single instance were to hypothetically ban you at the same time, you could still spin up your own instance and host your account there. They could all defederate and stop talking to it, but they couldnt stop you from still posting there and getting seen by anyone else that wanted to join it or connect their instance with yours.
Even I as a strong supporter of free speech acknowledge the problems with defining this term.

This feels like a lot of neo-liberal coming to the realization they have nothing in relation with the left like they have made themselves out to be. Neo-liberals are barely better than Republicans and lesser evil voting is not a solid voting matter. Even if it mattered which for majority of USA citizens it doesn't because the state swings one party or the other hard. Rank choice voting is needed, more diverse candidates are needed, both parties as they are not helping the average USA citizen hardly at all.

Some anarchists actually do call for boycotting elections, but few Marxist-Leninists do. Bourgeois elections have their uses. What we do say is that we can’t vote our way out of capitalism and that our vote hardly matters because we live in an oligarchy, not a democracy, and research at Princeton & Northwestern back this up.
