It bothers me that it doesn't say how tall the original is. 330 meters if anyone else was wondering.

That is about 4715 big Macs tall for my fellow Americans.

For Real Americans, the Eiffel Tower is 162 Hulk Hogans high, and weighs approximately 72993 Hulk Hogans.

It can shrink up to 150mm from summer to winter.

Thanks for that. That means the pictograms are (kind of) to scale!

That's common knowledge, you don't even know that? What do you mean, "frenchie detected"?!

(Jokes aside, I think that is why, noticing the small text in french at the bottom left of a map, they probably assume you already know cause its targeted toward french people)

Is this something most French people know? I don't know the height of any of the major monuments in the USA but I guess we don't have one single monument that's as synonymous with the whole country.

2

Whoever made these maps definitely knew about it lmao

I'm pretty sure that its general knowledge though, I don't remember if I learned the height in school

300 (or 301?) meters for the tower + antennas that have added to the height in various calibres up to 330 today.

The actual tower in Paris is 330m tall if anyone was wondering, like I was, about the difference in height between some of these others and the original. Seems silly to list heights for all these others on the map but not for the real one.

I’d wager this is something displayed at the Eiffel Tower, where they prominently display and have informed you a bajillion times how tall it is.

So this lets you compare, and if you’re not already aware of the number they’ve tried to ingrain in your brain, OR engage with what they have that tells you.

Well that makes a lot more sense than just forgetting to include the height of the original, like I thought.

I mean I’m making up the only scenario I could think of where it makes sense to not print it so idk if what I said was true I just like to make sense of stuff

Fun Eiffel Tower fact: for the 1893 world's fair in Chicago, Eiffel proposed building a copy of his original tower but twice as tall. The organizers passed on the offer and went with the Ferris wheel instead. We could have had Eiffel Bueller's Day Off.

I wondered if the 1/3 replica at King's Island in Ohio would make the list, and it did!

When I was a kid it was the closest amusement park to where I lived, about 45 minutes away. When I was old enough to drive four of us would pool our money for a family pass, which paid for itself in two visits. We went every week of summer break, every summer for three years. I should say gas was less than $1/gallon then.

Once we graduated we all got too busy to go that often, but it was some fun times while it lasted.

The park would close at 11:00, and at 10:30 they'd set of fireworks from the top of the "Eiffel" tower. We all swore they would "speed up" the rides after dark. Dunno if they actually did, but we were convinced lol. Of course we also knew with absolute certainty that if you swallowed gum it stayed in your guts for seven years, and that Marilyn Manson had a rib removed so that he could fellate himself. Man we were dumb

Amazing how that Marilyn Manson rumor spread everywhere before we had the Internet. It's so ridiculous, but looking at him you think oh yeah I bet that's something he would do. Sort of like how we all know about JD Vance's affection for leather couches.

There is also one in Paris, Arkansas and, I would hazard a guess, several other places not listed here.

There's a 30cm tall one in my office that's not shown on the map either.

I remember being rather surprised the first time I went to Tokyo since I'd never heard of Tokyo Tower before I went there. (Mind you, that was 25+ years ago and I was quite young at the time...)

7

That was my initial thought too, but I assume this is showing scale replicas of the Eiffel Tower rather than towers just generally inspired by it.

I'm surprised we don't have one in Japan. We romanticize the crap out of France.
