Berman: NWSL set to initiate expansion to 20 teams
Speaking at Leaders Week in London, Commissioner Jessica Berman said the league is about to open its data room for teams 19 and 20, allowing interested parties to access confidential business information about the league.

I think that as the number of teams grow, we are likely to see conferences introduced. It would both help manage the number of matches as well as reduce the amount of travel/cost.
You’re probably right about conferences, but I think we’ll likely also see more games on the schedule, so while we see a drop in the average distance and cost for travel, we’ll see an increase in the total distance and cost.
