Snakes smell in 3D, that's what the forked tongue is for. They have a hole in the roof of their mouth where they put their tongue and the smell particles from the two different sides of the tongue get interpreted as directional data.

make a ring with your thumb and finger

hold it arms length away

look through it at a distant object

make it so the object is inside the ring

watch with one eye and then with the other

you will see one eye is the "dominant" one that has the object inside the ring

for me it's the right eye

I can't look with both eyes at the same time, I also don't have proper depth of field vision. I can't catch balls or small objects for example. My eyes are also not straight. But I don't have a dominant eye. I can use both the same. I use my right eye for everything on my right side, my left one for everything on the left. So I have a skill almost no one else has, with no benefits what so ever, at the cost of loosing my depth of field.
