Nothing could be more in character for Trump than trying to exonerate Nixon.
He needs to exhonerate Nixon so people will stop comparing his criminal ass to him.
I think it’s even more child-brain than that. Jack smith was special counsel and he is trying to discredit the concept (of special counsel) itself.
It's not just him though, after Nixon, the partizans and their monied backers made sure to change the environment so if this scandal erupted again, their guy wouldn't have to resign.
