Just signed up. Hello!
Hi all!
I tried Lemmy multiple times, and each time the instance I signed to shut down, or got embroiled in drama. I saw PieFed today, how it's "interconnected" with Lemmy but not Lemmy. So I decided to try. The onboarding process was certainly much easier than Lemmy!
Anyway, I just wanted to make my first post and see what happens.

Welcome!
Welcome. Do you like linux? /rhetorical
Tip from someone who has lost accounts to instance shutdowns too: keep your followed communities, users, hashtags, etc. noted down as RSS feeds. Should help with not having to hunt down your stuff if it ever was to happen again.
Thanks but I don't know what an RSS feed is, so I probably can't do that. If I lose this account, I'll probably just cut my losses.
RSS feed is a link that certain programs (or you manually) can pull new posts of a given place from, and the fediverse is full of those. Usually people use those to get posts in an unified and local feed, but helps as a way to list those you'd follow if they become unreachable, and being (usually) locally managed, no one can legitimately reach to your machine to shadowban them or the sort.
Give me a few minutes and I'll record a video exemplifying.
