LOL back in the 90s the whole server room at Sierra Online Games looked like this. The one time I went in there I literally had to step over masses of cables in a rat's nest through the room. There was a console at the back of the room where the DBA did routine tasks like creating rooms and changing settings by typing SQL commands into the live production database. Good times.
That’s a dev that got roped into operations and really has better things to do. Likely because Operations is running super hot on scant resources and no end in sight like always

Par for the course in any data closet I've ever seen

That is surprisingly normal for a huge amount of racks I've seen. You should see UK NHS racks, Jesus fucking wept.
That isnt even in my top 10 worst closets. Call me when the raised floor is collapsing under the rack and we'll talk.
I dunno man. There's at least multiple colors to make following things easier. I've definitely seen worse.
It definitely looks like someone put effort in to start, but as things needed to be pulled or added things just got out of hand.
This seems like the IT equivalent of tossing your laundry on the bed to take care of later.
You need to unplug and plug the grey cable.
Those patches are so long you could probably cut one as an attack was happening and stop it
That's not that bad
Ahhh, that's not too bad all things considered. Definitely, not good, but not eldritch horror. An afternoon of cleanup and it'll be fine.
