people quickly started testing variations like “Microsl0p” to slip past the filter

Why don't they just use that AI they're so fond of to cover this situation

They asked the AI and it told them it was too expensive at scale.

They're actually quite lucky to be called "Microslop" instead of what we used to call it back in the day...

Macroshit, Macroslop, Micro$oft!

With our powers combined, we summon...

::: spoiler We used to refer to the company with this despicable name Micro$oft ::: That showed them how mad we were at them! Big mad!!

The intended takeaway is "Microsoft is getting less bad", but I don't think their brand reputation is salvageable by anything short of putting all C-levels in stocks on the front lawn in Redmond and a full repudiation of copilot/ai which obviously won't happen.

They probably already chose a new name.

Probably something ass-hatted such as 'Microhard'

Microhard already exists, they are a radio module vendor in Canada. So presumably Microsoft will sue them to make them change their name.

"Microsoft changed course" (about shoving Slop into every nook and cranny of their products)

I very much doubt that. When I have to open Office365 (Copilot... Sloppity... WhateverItIsCalledThIsWeek) in a browser they manage to hide the actual apps like Word, Excel etc. a little more behind the giant empty chat interface. Last time I checked my pinned Apps were gone and now there is a tiny button containing some of the apps. To make it worse, this button changed the location on screen almost every time I opened this website in the past months (I'm not using it very often).

IT-1: "Look Bob, another ticket from the guy"

IT-2: "LMAO, ask him if he tried turning it off and on"

From what I've seen coming out of Redmond recently, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the "Microslop" filter broke with some random update as opposed to being intentionally disabled.

I have a uBlock Origin filter that replaces all instances of Microsoft with Microslop, and sometimes I forget it's even called Microsoft.
