More importantly you can wear them in the shower and be less likely to catch tinea or worse. They also don't have a thong that can be taken out and wrapped around shit, and the bottom is soft enough that it doesn't do more than sting a little if you smack somebody with it, and doesn't add much extra to a kick.

Apparently they're for behavioral and corrective facilities. Psych ward slides. Easy to clean.
