Age [Sara Andersen]

Sarah Andersen | Bluesky

::: spoiler Transcript The image is of a four panel comic.

The first panel shows a brain. The brain is saying “I’m 30 and YOUNG! I only recently fully developed!”

The second panel shows a heart. The heart says “I hear ya! I can keep going for DECADES more!”

The third panel shows a spine’s face. It weakly says, “I am old”.

We zoom out and the spine is using a walker. It continues, “so very old”. :::

I feel this joke in my bones.

Early 40s, in the best shape of my life. Jogged, lifted weights, had my diet, supplements, and sleep dialed in perfect. I had tremendous amount of energy and felt great, high achieving in many areas of my life and the old lady and I screwed like rabbits.

Fast forward 7 or 8 years, degenerative disc disease caught up to me, now I can barely sit down on the toilet to take a crap. I'm barely functional due to the depression and loss of mobility and am in constant pain and discomfort.

But aside from the back, muscle loss, weight gain, limp dick, failing eyesight, heart murmur, hair loss, receding gums, cancer lying in ambush, and brain fog, everything else is fine. 🤣

Crazy to think the system wants to squeeze 20 more years of labor out of me. Why are we all putting up with this??

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Yeah, it's a bitch but honestly it's a journey we all go through.

If we're lucky.

Y'all need to go to the gym or otherwise train your backs. I've been going for about three months (1-2 times a week) and the back pains are gone. Am 34, software engineer, and still a little overweight, so you can do it too!

32, lazy as fuck. I work as a chef 0 back pain and I engage in bisexual sitting. No idea why I don't have back pain but I'm convinced my sitting style is akin to doing yoga constantly or something

11

Actual phenomenon where bisexuals sit anywhere except in a chair. My wife will sit on the floor, a table, on the arm of a chair, upside down on the couch, etc

It's a complete mott and bailey. Obviously 95% of people can avoid back issues by just working out a few times a week. But when you point that out you apparently just happen to be speaking to the one person who has severe scoliosis and it's implied that that's who all of the people complaining about bad backs are dealing with.

It's an identical situation when you talk to people who complain about sleep or diet issues.

The victim role is much easier to accept than responsibility. Speaking from experience 🫠

I'm 50, worked out for years, took care of myself, did stupid shit all my life, no issues with my back. Maybe take care of yourself a bit everyone?

If you only eat "volume foods" you'll probably start to lose the weight too.

Visit a place thar has sizzling steaks on the menu.

Don't even need to order, just grab little nibbles of sizzle when the waiter goes by. Not unlike the wily sea sponge.

Neurogenesis (the creation of new neurons) has been observed in the brains of seniors.

I once woke up with 3 dislocated ribs; one in the front, two in the back. Spent the first few hours of the day relocating them

Honestly, I can't really relate - in my 30s but I got a strong back, I don't really get back pain

Neither did I until recently. Time comes for us all

For me it was an early 34th birthday gift. Without refund. It usually hits people who aren't doing sports, so if you're going to the gym with a good exercise routine that'll delay it greatly.

Some of my biggest back pains are from going to the gym! 😉

Watch out for your forms when lifting. It's so easy to hurt your joints if you're unfamiliar with certain movements under loads. I can now pop my shoulder like a knuckle because of it.

I also learned I meet hEDS criteria, hypermobile joints needed more care than I was giving them, was having too much dopamine from chasing weight numbers. Hopefully I can at least be a cautionary tale.

I suspect regular moderate exercise within ergonomic safety limits is the best way to avoid back pain.

Perhaps you're rich and have a premium mattress. That helps a lot.

I like how people are telling us that we need to go to the gym and shit as though some of us don't have actual medical issues with our backs. I've been dealing with issues since my teens with my back and knees, do all the physical therapy techniques I can to keep the pain at a minimum but it's only going to slow the inevitable.

13

I remember my back started popping at age 21.

That said, I've found that getting regular exercise, using one's legs, and doing some cardio every day has been great for my back. Doesn't hurt to take 5-10 minutes a day to stretch either.

Unfortunately the human body is 'use it or lose it'.

Where’d you get them from? Hopefully not stolen. Somebody might need those.

9

Comic made by someone who hasn't had a life of psychological problems. My brain feels just as old as my spine and it's easier to give my spine breaks and let it rest, not as easy with anxiety etc.

6

I used to have back pain but then I started working out properly including my back muscles and I feel no pain at all, I'm 36.

Everything was better back before cells had mitochondria.

It's hard sometimes to be the best at carrying other people.

I'm not that person, though. I still have back problems, BTW.

3

I’m active and fit at 39. That said, my back did “the thing” while I was slightly bent to throw trash away. And I have arthritis so I still just hurt like I’m out there punching walls sometimes, just as a treat.
