TIFU i lost all my notes with no backup
TIFU by keeping ally notes in one app. the phone screen turned on somehow and pocketdial-type touches occured. later i open my notes and its just 2 lines of emojis and giberish. i tried to hit the undo button but that didnt work because i guess either autosave or the save button was somehow pressed. there is no backup. which is funny, because i have a shell script somewhere that can be invoked to save the notes somewhere.
anyway, i am devastated. that is like 1000+ hours of my life's work obliterated. even if i could extend my life by 1000+ hours, i wouldnt generate that exact high quality work. and so i kinda feel like giving up(for a while). or switching gears.
i sorta feel like i could do a combination of things:
- really distrust and respect, that technology is not fucking app. hell fucking no. i will append strings in the linux shell from now on. apps are cute. use them but dont trust them.
- focus on supercharging LLM power. an LLM is the only thing that has any chance of reproducing an equivalent value of all my work.
- move toward more productive areas. get into rigerous programming and amplify my output or outcomes.
i feel like now would be a good time to become a nomad. in the sense that i look back and feel like i dont want to futily attempt to retrace my steps. whatever it is, i cant be looking to the past, i need to move forward. luckily my secondary note app was billthefarmer editor. that app has no bullshit features. you write a file and save it somewhere(kinda pesky).. but it guarantees that the file is saved somewhere.. wont be touched..and you can retrieve it.
TL;DR
all my notes got deleted from my android app. there was no backup. rethinking my life.

Take these feelings and channel that into backups and backup those backups. Happens to the best of us eventually. Sorry for your loss
thats true. its my own fault in some ways. meaning that i could have prevented it via backups.
i suppose i could channel my feelings in that direction. however, even before this, i had plans of moving away from apps. apps dont provide necessary features that i need.
its like.. for example.. why would you ever need a complicated selfhosted cloud software to store your notes(bad example RN). my reasoning: someone else wrote the software for general users. if the task is simple(writing text to a file).. i ought to just write it myself, for my own needs. its not hard and its really important that it works and is controllable.
apps are kinda cute and ergonomic for touchscreens(maybe*). i would still use it when i absolutely need that. but any other case, i would take the opportunity to take full control of my workflow.
