I now have an allocator in my own operating system
Quite a bit more has happened since I wrote that. This has been a fruitful project. I've learned a lot.
I wrote in there that it was largely vibe-coded. It was to that point. But now I'm down to 10% AI. C is very fruitful in always being able to do the next step. C is known for making every problem kind of hard. But it makes no problem impossible.
I wonder if it's why C projects have so much long term momentum compared to others. At no point are you ever stuck. Even in an environment where you don't have lib-c, an OS, any syscalls, floating point math, you just never truly feel stuck and so projects just keep churning to the next improvement for 30+ years when it's C. You just write the next alg and keep moving even if it's slower. Other languages make you regret an architecture decision and throw away or re-write after enough time.
