Stagnation (A Short Story)
I wake up to the sound of birds outside my window. It has been many days since anything of interest had happened. I stare out of the window for a while, observing the birds and the people walking below. I never liked the people around here. Each bringing in strange smells and making weird noises. I never trusted them. There was only one person I trusted. My only friend. The apartment stays silent. Nothing happens. It's so nice. So calm... And so boring. It has been so stagnant lately. The only form of entertainment around here is killing flies, end even that has its limits when it comes to entertainment value. And the smell... It's been getting worse over the days. Without anything better to do, I finally get up and walk into the other room. There, at the dining room table sits my friend. The only person I ever trusted. They've been sitting there for quite a while now. Several days in fact. Flies buzz around them, landing on their face, crawling in and out their mouth and nostrils. The smell has really gotten strong. I hope they do something about it soon. And they haven’t filled my bowl in days. I calmly walk up to my friend, and begin eating.
